SHIP SECURITY DRILL
(SCENARIO – Armed Robbery)
VESSEL: NAVIG8 AMETHYST

DATE: 13th May 2020
Scenario:
On 13th May 2020 at approximately 0600 UTC, whilst the vessel at Chittagong, Anchorage.
OOW notices two intruders on poop deck with knives. Master has been informed
immediately. Alarm raised, all crew on security duties, SSAS alert activated /
Accommodation locked down / Fire Hose ready. All notifications carried out as per SSP.
The intruders on hearing the alarm and seeing the crew, jump off the vessel. On inspection
found few items missing from ship’s stores. Local Coast Guard Patrol Boat approaches the
vessel and communicates with the vessel via VHF. After through security search Master
confirms all okay onboard. Drill Call off.

Positives from the drill:

Management team was particularly impressed by the vessels reporting and the
photographs that came with each Update. Each update was made to realistic. We highly
appreciate the same.
Overall drill was found to be satisfactory and we would like to thank vessel and office staff
for active participation in the drill to make it to realistic scenario.

DRILL SCENARIO – Basic Information

EXERCISE SCENARIO
1. Drill is expected to commence on 13th May 2020 @ 0630 UTC.
2. The exercise begins when Master activates the SSAS in the “TEST” mode from
both, the Primary and Secondary location.
3. The exercise will last until all elements of the exercise have been carried out and
all objectives have been satisfied.
4. All verbal and written communication must begin with the vessel’s name as
“Exercise Vessel Name” and end with the Phrase “This is a Drill” throughout the
exercise.
5. As this is not a real time incident, there will be some drill simulations. Please
ensure that all participants do their best to cope with the simulations when and
where necessary. If you need drill specific information, please contact Exercise
Control at +91 77188 52300.
6. Do NOT ask for action or participation outside the role players or exercise
participants other than on the enclosed Telephone List.
7. In the event of a “REAL EMERGENCY” taking place during the drill, this DRILL
shall be terminated by a direct call to Exercise Control.
8. During the exercise, use only the Contact information listed in the “Ship Security
Drill - Telephone List.
9. After the exercise, all real Emergency notifications will be in accordance with the
Ship Security Plan Manual and / or the Shipboard Emergency Plan.
10. All Emails shall be serially numbered as Exercise Navig8 Amethyst / Drill Email 1,
Drill Email 2 or Drill Email 3 etc.

SEQUENCE OF EVENTS

 Vessel is at Security level 1,

 Watchkeeper notices two intruders on poop deck with knives
 Master and SSO informed about the security breach.
 General Alarm activated. Master announces security breach on the public
address system.
 SSAS activated from Primary and Secondary location.
 Crew mustered and proceeds to CITADEL except anti-piracy watchkeepers
 CSO responds to SSAS alert. Master informs nature of security threat .
 Accommodation under lock down
 CSO Mobilizes Emergency Response Team.
 ERT notifies Flag State, Coast Guard, Agnet & Owner
 CSO confirms to Master notification Flag State, Coast Guard & Agents.
 Intruders jumps off the vessel on hearing alarm and crew getting alerted
 Security teams increase vigilance.
 Patrol boat arrives location and checks with Master on safety of crew and
current situation. Master informs about the intruders noticed onboard and
then jumping off the vessel . Patrol boat circles vessel and surrounding area
and leaves after a while. maintains VHF contact
 Full search carried out of vessel as per SSP, stores noted stolen
 Anti-piracy watch doubled up ,

and some stores stolen.
Patrol boat circled around the vessel and surrounding area and left. Also advised vessel to
maintain VHF contact with patrol boat and be vigilant.
