Introduction

Background of the study

The concept of COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects on

nearly every aspect of society, including education. Schools in the

Philippines, and in most countries in the world, were closed on March

2020 as nations developed lockdown measures to prevent further spread

of the virus. While educators transitioned from traditional face-to-face

learning to digital platforms for remote teaching, many challenges arose

that required quick solutions and changes to policy and procedures to

provide equitable and appropriate remote learning to all students.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the whole world to a halt, with

practically every country experiencing "Lockdown” condition. While the

lockdown mechanism is a critical step in halting the exponential rise in

COVID-19 cases, the pandemic had significant impact on young people

mental health is apparent because it’s affect their academic

performance, the common difficulties were that students found it

difficult is to how to communicate with their teachers and classmates

because as a student it’s really challenges for us to learn on digital flat

form since we don’t know how we can understand the topic without
teachers who’s teaching us. During the pandemic most of the students

don't learn anything because of modular so as a student who lazy to

answer their module they can easily answer it by using Google, Brainly

and etc, just to make their lives easier.

This manuscript highlights potential areas of academic research which

are likely to be impacted by COVID-19 on Senior High Students. The main

objectives of this research has to know how students studies on senior

high school affect by the COVID-19 pandemic, because many difficulties

develop as Instructors switched from traditional face to face classes to

online learning platforms.

According to Dhawen (2020), many of the research studies on the

phenomena, Although development in educational technology in the last

few decades proved extremely valuable during this pandemic (Dhawaen,

2020), teachers, students, parents and other key educators confronted

numerous problems that they were not prepared to handle (Chakraborty

et al., 2020). School leaders and teachers rushed to completely redesign

there educational delivery models, parents balance work demands with

the responsibility of ensuring there children accessing instruction from

while, and students struggled to stay engaged connected with there

teachers and peers online.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDY

“This literature review explore recent research about the impact of

COVID-19 on senior high school students education, many scholars

undertook broad research on educational practices to explore how

COVID-19 has impacted in teaching and learning in the field of education

and examines literature that focus on the negative outcomes of COVID-

pandemic program history of "The Impact of COVID-19 on Senior High

School Students Education: Challenges Adaptations and Students

Outcomes at Datu Ibrahim Paglas Memorial College."

History Review of The Impact of COVID-19 on Senior High School

Education Research.

Foreign: The American Trends Panel survey of teachers and principals

(Hamilton et al., 2020) implemented in late April-early May

complements the work of the Center on Reinventing Public Education

(Gross & Opalka, 2020) and their systematic review of school districts'

and charter management organizations' web sites. The American

Institutes of Research (AIR) also launched a national survey on educators'

response to coronavirus (Garet et al., 2020). Policy briefs developed from

this data have focused on three areas of concern, which are also noted in

our coded themes: teacher lack of familiarity with learning tools, district

ability to offer socio-emotional support to students, and frequency of

teacher-student and teacher-family interactions.

Researchers at the RAND Corporation (Gross & Opalka, 2020) found that

nearly 90% of principals reported that students in their schools lacked

internet access and 40% reported that access to technology and/or

internet was also a barrier for their teachers. A third of principals (35%)

reported that district policies related to the use of online tools (such as

Zoom or G Suite for Education) presented limitations (Hamilton et al.,

2020). In addition, in an EdWeek (2020) survey in April, 74% of teachers

said their students' current level of engagement was "much lower" or

"somewhat lower" than it had been prior to the pandemic, and nearly a

quarter of students were "essentially truant." The ability to use

technology to teach learners at a distance has been especially important

in times of emergency, such as natural disasters (Hinson et al., 2007;

Rush et al., 2014), but fully functioning emergency online schools are

possible only through thoughtful planning and development before a

disaster strikes. During the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers were asked to

transition to online teaching with little time to prepare, becoming both

instructional designers and pedagogical facilitators using tools which few

had fluently mastered. Their lack of experience teaching in a virtual

environment was reported widely in the media. Yet demand for these

learning models has in fact been increasing in the K–12 sector

(Archambault & Kennedy, 2014; Rice & Deschaine, 2020). Researchers

have found that while most teachers regularly use computers in their

personal and professional lives, there is a gap between personal use and

classroom use. This gap supports the idea that a lack of confidence and

teaching beliefs prevents teachers from regularly using technology in

their instruction (Bebell & Kay, 2010; Tyminsky et al., 2013). Teachers

must not only have technological expertise, but they also need to

develop strategies for building relationships with students and attending

to their social, emotional, and academic needs (Borup & Evmenova,

2019; Rice & Carter, 2015). Despite the need for educators who are

prepared to teach online, teacher preparation for online programs is

essentially non-existent (Kennedy & Archambault, 2012).

Local: The COVID-19 has led to the unfortunate loss of human life

and presents challenges to public health, the world's economy,

and education Amidst the pandemic, one of the affected areas is

education worldwide, including the Philippines, which changed

dramatically from faculty lecturing in a classroom setting that has

been the backbone of traditional academic education to distance

learning, where the students continue their education in homes.

(Liezl Fulgencio, K Baldado, C Enriquez, A Delos Santos, R Plaza,

J Tus. 2021). Studies on mental health and academic performance

have been conducted throughout the world. Thus, this study aims

to assess the students' mental health amidst the new normal of

education employing 21-item Depression, Anxiety, and Stress

Scale or DASS-21, concerning their academic

performance. ( Jhoselle Tus,. 2020). Online meeting platforms

have been widely utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic due to

the current shift from traditional learning. However, the acceptance

of the different online meeting platforms for e-learning has been

underexplored. The purpose of this study was to determine the

factors for acceptance of an online learning platform among

students during the COVID-19 pandemic.(Yogi Tri Prasetyo,

Ardvin Kester S Ong, Giero Kris’sianne Frances Concepcion.,

2021).

This study investigated the instructional competencies of teachers

in The existence of COVID-19 pandemic brought extraordinary

challenges to the stakeholders, teachers, parents, and students.

Thus, the researcher believed that there is an effect of teaching-

learning process in new normal education to students’

performance most especially using modular type of learning in

Mathematics.(Jainalyn Annong Aksan., 2020). The novel

coronavirus disease, or more popularly known as COVID-19, has

affected education at all levels in the Philippines. Since the

confirmation of local transmission of COVID-19 in March 2020, the

government has issued policy measures in response to the

pandemic that have impacted on the basic education sector. On

March 9, 2020, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed

Proclamation No. 922, declaring a state of public health

emergency throughout the Philippines and, as an effect,

suspended classes at all levels in Metro Manila. (Naomi Fontanos,

Junette Fatima Gonzales, Kathrina Lucasan, Dina S Ocampo.,

2020). Amidst the threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines,

the educators, students, and the school are still coping and

adjusting to the distance learning education. This study explored

teachers' awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and their

opinion on their respective schools’ readiness, as well as their

response to the challenges of conducting distance learning

education in the Philippines.(Lapada Aris Alea, Miguel Frosyl

Fabrea, Robledo Dave Arthur Roldan, Alam Zeba Farooqi., 2020).

This study explores the lived experiences of the public school

teachers during COVID-19 pandemic. The responses were

analyzed through Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA).

The following were study's findings: Most teachers are significantly

challenged by lack of resources, handling of students, and the

submission and workloads that contribute to stress and burnout.

The occurrence of the digital age limited most public-school

teachers. (Joseph Robosa, N Paras, Lhyza Perante, Trizhia Alvez,

Jhoselle Tus., 2021). The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the

shift from face-to-face to fully online learning. The purpose of this

study was to evaluate the preference of senior high school

students on online learning attributes during the COVID-19

pandemic by utilizing a conjoint analysis approach (Ardvin Kester

S Ong, Yogi Tri Prasetyo, Thanatorn Bonificò T. 2022). Online

classes during the COVID-19 pandemic were confronted with

varied challenges. Examples are the technological and economic

issues that university students had to deal with, especially in

developing countries such as the Philippines. (Cristie Ann L Jaca.,

2022). COVID-19 pandemic has closed-down educational

institutions and dramatically shifts the instruction to distance

learning. However, students rooted from the marginalized families

and from rural areas have limited access to technology necessary

for online learning. Modular learning addresses this learning

inequality by providing more inclusive access to education.
