7. A law student, who wants to check a professor’s claim that convicted embezzlers spend on
the average 12.3 months in jail, takes a random sample of 16 such cases and obtains an
average of 11.5 months with a standard deviation of 3.8 months. Can the sample result be
taken as evidence that the professor’s claim was an exaggeration at the1% level of
significance?
