LISTENING I didn’t play basketball


Activity 1: Language presentation/review
a. What sport goes with do, go, or play?

b. Add some more to the table and tick ( ü ) next to the ones you played.
c. Tell your partner in full sentences which sports you did/didn’t do.
I did yoga. I played badminton.
I didn’t do yoga. I didn’t play badminton.
d. Ask your friends about the sports they didn’t mention. Below is an example:
Q: Did you play baseball?
A: Yes, I played baseball.
No, I didn’t play baseball.

Activity 2: Listening skills


Listen and fill in the blanks. Circle the negative form of the past simple tense.

Activity 1: Language practice


a. Match the two parts of the sentences from the dialogue.
1. I’m really bad • • at running.

b. Finish sentence starters 1–3 with different sports to make them true about yourself. Write 2
sentences in simple present tense and 2 more in simple past tense.

Listen to the teacher, fill in the blanks, and practice reading these sentences aloud. Try to make
them sound more natural.

Activity 3: Discussion
Work in different pairs. Tell your partner about the sports you did or played. This time, give
more details, for example:

• what exercise were you good at and bad at?


• what exercise did you do/play when you were younger?
• how old were you when you started doing/playing it?
• how often did you do/play the sport?
• where did you do/play it?
• who did you do/play with? Were they good at it or bad at it?
• why did you do/play it?

Useful language:
