EdX and Marshall

1. Provide one page summary regarding the Business Mode of EdX and its future

implications.

EdX was founded in 2012 by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology

with a budget of $60 million. EdX is known as MOOCs which stands for massive open

online courses. These courses aimed to offer high-quality educational instruction by reducing

the cost and using flipped and blended classrooms. At the beginning, EdX started as a free

collaborative platform with different partner Universities and Institutes. However, in 2013

they introduced the revenue experiment, they offer free courses but implemented a fee for

verified “Certificates of Achievement”, small fees to the viewer, or auditor of courses, and a

charge to universities for its use as different revenue sources to cover costs such as for

developers, administrators, course assistants, consultants as wells as server spaced and

licensed technology. In the first years, EdX focused on attracting course development and

attracting learners by offering free courses but charging premium services. Moreover, EdX

offered publishers and employers to earn a fee by referring students to a particular course.

Nowadays, it generates revenue by licensing arrangements with universities. To share the

revenue with partner brands, it proposed two revenue-sharing arrangements “University Self-

Service Model” and the “EdX-Supported Model”. Regarding this background information,

we can analyze the future implications of edX which is nowadays a well-positioned MOOC

and it will continue growing due to the demand for online education and technological

advancements. Furthermore, the expansion of partner brands will contribute to EdX's revenue

and solidify its position in the market. In addition, as new advancements have been made in

terms of technology, it could allow EdX to integrate interactive rooms, artificial intelligence,

and augmented reality for the improvement of its courses. Finally, it will continue to be the
leader of MOOCs since it reaches a global audience by offering accessible courses and

improving the quality of education.

2. Provide and comparison analysis of advantages and disadvantages regarding the

House Structures in High School Marshall.

Regarding the House Structures in High School Marshall let's analyze the advantages and

disadvantages of this system. On the one hand, houses have the independence to create

their own curricula by considering learners’ needs according to the different educational

fields. Also, by having the four different houses, learners have a sense of belonging to

each house strengthening their ties and sense of community and interdisciplinary

collaborations in different academic disciplines. Moreover, learning and support are

personalized since the academic staff could get a closer relationship with students to

guide them in the different aspects required. On the other hand, there is a potential

segregation due to the fact that students are divided according to their academic ability,

interests, and even socioeconomic background. Furthermore, it can create a bad

environment in terms of competition since everyone has a sense of belonging to his own

house there could exist rivalry. Finally, the logistics must be a challenge since organizing

schedules according to the number of students, classrooms, and professors must be very

thought to have a good organization and may need schedule adjustments
