Avoiding the accidents, fire and having food safety are the importance of safe
kitchen practices to ensure safety.
2. Describe factors leading to food born illnesses and strategies that can help
prevent them.
Unsafe water and uncooked ingredients are the factors which can lead to food -
born illnesses. The strategies that can help stop this illness would be trying to avoid
raw or not cooked food and have proper food storage.
Washing hands properly and covering your head or hair are the personal hygiene
practices to ensure food safety.
Safety of the equipment and staying organized are the strategies. Fires, Falling and
Tripping are the emergency responses in case of kitchen accidents.
1. Most cases of food-borne illnesses go unreported. Why do you think this is the
case?
I think this is the case because of mild symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea, less
knowing about reporting channels and having less serious consequences.
Proper hand washing involves wetting hands, applying soap, rubbing your palms
together, cleaning the spaces between your fingers, scrubbing under your nails,
rubbing the back of your hand, cleaning your thumb & wrists, also rinsing your
hands and drying them. It involves these steps because this is how you are
protecting yourself from getting sick.
Food should be kept in the fridge by using the correct temperature, air tight
container and making sure the food is not over packed.
5. How would you respond to oil heating in a frying pan that catches fire?
You can respond to oil heating in a frying pan that catches fire by turning off the
stove, using a fire extinguisher if you have it in your house and calling for help if you
are having trouble keeping out the fire.
