Unit II: Independent Study Project


Tricentia Academy, 2007-08

You are about to embark on a journey into the unknown!!!!!!!!

As part of the Level 2 Math Curriculum you are required to complete an


Independent Study Project. This research project must focus on a
mathematical topic that, preferably, sparks your interest and entices you
to delve into an in-depth study of the same. Choices for such a project
may include (but are certainly not limited to) the following:

researching a new topic in the field of mathematics


extending on a previously learned topic
the life and contributions of a mathematician
interesting mathematical problems and their solutions
studying the connections between mathematics and another subject
studying the connections between mathematics and any aspect of daily
life
the Fibonacci Sequence, the Golden Ratio, the Divine Proportion, etc.
any other topic approved by your math teacher

Projects may be completed individually, or in groups of no more than 2


students.

If you have another idea in the completion of your project, you may ask your
teacher for approval.
All projects must include a complete list of sources/resources used.

Evaluation

(10%)

If the project is completed individually, this will consist of a selfassessment form being completed.

If a group project is completed, both a self-assessment form and a group


evaluation form will be completed.
