I EO 401.09: OPEN AND CLOSE ORDER MARCH

1. Ask Cadets if they know which row of the troop does what in the command.
2. Ask Cadets if they know the count for each row of the troop during the command.

1. Give Cadets commands of both Open and Close Order March; observe, confirm and
continue.

INTRODUCTION TIME: 1-2 MIN

WHO: Hello, my name is Sgt. Snodgrass

WHAT: During this drill lecture you will learn how to dismiss as a troop.

WHY: The drill movement will allow the troop to leave the parade square in a proper fashion.

WHERE: The dismissal can lead to the end of a training day at your HQ or any training activity
within the cadet movement.

TEST: After the lesson there will be a test on your performance.

BODY INSTR NOTES

I STAGE 1: DISMISSING A TROOP TIME: 22-24 MINs


1. Dismissing a Troop: The command “DISMISS” is usually giving
at the end of a parade or instructional period. When this occurs the
troop will be in line and at attention.

2. Demonstration: Give a complete demonstration with timing.

a. Give Command: “DIS-MISS”

b. The Count: One, two-three, One, two-three, LEFT,


RIGHT, LEFT. Do movements on Ones and pauses on
Two-Threes.

3. Squad 1:

a. Demonstrate Squad 1: On the command “DIMISS BY


SQUADS, SQUAD - ONE”, troop members shall:

Turn at a 90 degree angle on their right heel and left toe


while keeping hands at sides.

b. Practice Squad 1: Practice as a troop, calling the time,


“ONE”. Practice individually and check while it be
Necessary.

4. Squad 2:

a. Demonstrate Squad 2: On the command “DISMISS BY


SQUADS, SQUAD - TWO”, troop members shall: Correct mistakes as
they occur.
(i) bend the left knee to be parallel with the floor.

b. Practice Squad 2: Practice as a group, single, and then


group again. Do this by calling “TWO”

5. Squad 3:

a. Demonstrate Squad 3: On the command “DISMISS BY


SQUADS, SQUAD - THREE”, troop members shall:
Correct mistakes as
(i) put the left foot out in a half pace they occur.

(ii) at this time throw right arm to the front breast


pocket high and left arm in the rear waist high

(iii) take two more paces at a regular length


b. Practice Squad 3:

(i) Use the count: “LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT”

(ii) Practice as a group, single, and a group again.

5. Complete Movement:

a. Demonstrate Complete Movement: I will go on


demonstrating the complete movement, calling the time,
“ONE, two – three, ONE, two-three, LEFT, RIGHT,
LEFT”.

(i) Emphases on the pauses. Correct mistakes as


they occur.
(ii) After marching three paces as a troop, the troop
will then march independently, in quick time, from
the place of parade.

b. Practice Complete Movement: Practice both as a group


and as a individual with timing and without.

6. Complete Movement with Salute:

a. Officer on Parade: When an officer is remaining on


parade on the dismissal, the troop will salute.

b. Command: “OFFICER ON PARADE, DIS - MISS”.


c. The Count Will Be: “One, two-three, One, two-three,
Up, two-three, Down, two-three, LEFT, RIGHT,
LEFT.

II CONFIRMATION STAGE 1

1. Practice the whole movement with timing

2. Practice the whole movement only with an officer present.

PERFORMANCE CHECK TIME: 3-5 MINs

I Cadets must execute the movements for dismissal as a member of a troop.

1. Cadets must complete movements with me calling the time.

2. Cadets must complete movements with them calling the time.


3. Cadets must complete movements with them or I not calling the time.

CONCLUSION TIME: 1-2 MIN

SUMMARY: A. During this instructional period you have learned how to properly execute
the movements necessary to perform a Dismissal with or without an
officer.

B. The dismissal indicates the end of a parade or the completion of a training


session, this allows the troop to leave the parade square in a proper fashion

RE-MOTIVATE: A. Comment on Cadet progression.

B. Every time you form up, you will be dismissed eventually. So this is a very
valuable skill to know and to be able to perform properly.
