Cognitive Questions
COs Marks
Level Note : All are Compulsory
1. (a) Determine the region of operation of M1 in each of the circuits 8
CO1 L4 shown in Fig. 1. (Vtn = 0.6 V, Vtp = -0.6 V). Justify each with relevant
equations.
1. (b) Design the circuit of Fig. 2, determine the values of RD and RS so
that the transistor operates at ID = 0.4 mA and VD = +0.5 V. The NMOS
CO1 L2 transistor has VT = 0.7 V, unCox, = 100 uA/V2, L = 1 um, and W = 32 um. 12
Neglect the channel-length modulation effect

2. (a) Sketch the small signal equivalent model of PMOS and NMOS with
CO2 L2 8
channel length modulation
2. (b) Fig. 3 shows a discrete MOSFET amplifier utilizing a drain-to-gate
resistance RG for biasing purposes. The input signal vi is coupled to the
gate via a large capacitor, and the output signal at the drain is coupled to
the load resistance RL via another large capacitor. Analyze this amplifier
circuit to determine its small-signal voltage gain, its input resistance, and
CO2 L3 12
the largest allowable input signal. The transistor has Vt= 1.5 V, kn (W/L)
= 0.25 mA/V2, and VA= 50 V. Assume the coupling capacitors to be
sufficiently large so as to act as short circuits at the signal frequencies of
interest.

2(d) Find the output impedance and trans conductance of the circuit given
CO2 L3 in Fig.4 using small signal models 12

3. (a) Consider the CS amplifier. Assume the MOSFET is specified to have

Vt =1 V, kn= 4 mA/V2, and VA= 100 V. Neglecting the Early effect, design
