PARENTAL INFORMATION LETTER

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On Friday, September 22, 2023 Mississauga Secondary School will be taking part in the 18th Annual Terry
Fox School Walk. (Rain/alternate date: Monday, September 25, 2018.)

MSS is proud to play an important role in keeping the legacy of Terry Fox going. Students will have the
opportunity to discuss and reflect on Terry’s heroic efforts over the next few weeks as well as raise much-
needed funds for cancer research. Through our participation in the Terry Fox School Walk, we hope to
encourage leadership in our students and create positive agents of change in our wonderful school
community.

If all staff and students at MSS (1120) donate $5, our school will raise $5,600 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
“Paws for the Cause”!

The MSS Yearbook will be leading this event and cheering students along the walk. The MSS Marching Band
will also be the encouraging school spirit! The MSS staff and our Peel School Resource Officers, new to
MSS, The walk will take place on school grounds at the soccer and cricket pitch , and around the Courtney
Athletic Field behind Mississauga Secondary School from 9:40 am -10:30 am.

Preferred Donation Options are as follow:

Option #1:

School Cash Online Donations:

● Go to https://peelschools.schoolcashonline.com/ and register to donate your pledge online (Most
students have already set up their account. You will find the Terry Fox walk category to
donate)
● We would greatly appreciate it if all Lions would donate $5 however, there will be other options
for larger or smaller donations ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50 other)
● (Please note: if you donate throughout on School Cash Online, Tax receipts WILL NOT be
provided by the school)
Option #2:

Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation:

● To receive a tax receipt IF you donate $20 or more, parents and guardians please check
previous Emails with this additional information about this matter.

● Alternatively, go to terryfox.org and follow the instructions

Your child may choose to also set-up their own fundraising page by clicking the “donate to a student”
button. Their page will connect automatically to our school's fundraising page and they’ll receive a
link to email friends and family to help them reach their fundraising goal.

Options #3:

Cash Donations or by Check:

● Although online donations are encouraged, IF a student cannot donate online they can donate
cash or check (Checks can be made payable to The Terry Fox Foundation)

***Pledge sheets can be picked up in the main office and donations of $20 or more will receive a tax
receipt. ***

We are very excited to be part of this year’s Terry Fox Walk. This is our opportunity to make a difference in
the lives of those suffering from cancer. We hope you will join us as our school community bands together in
the fight against cancer. Thank you in advance for your support! Go Lions!!!

The excursion is considered an extension of school. Accordingly, expectations regarding student

behavior are the same as those for the regular school day. Students should dress according to the
weather, wear team/club/council shirts or MSS school colours, and remember to bring your refillable
water bottles!!!! (wear yellow or red TBD)
