Exercise 2
READ THE BLOG POST, HIGHLIGHT ACTIVE
VOCABULARY AND AFTERWARDS MAKE UP
A SENTENCES WITH EACH ONE

Do you have a problem with your neighbors? Are they noisy

or rude? Don't give up! Here are some ideas to help you deal
with the situation.

If your neighbors are having a loud party, call the police. They can
come and ask your neighbors to turn the music down. If your
neighbors' dog barks all night, talk to them about it first. Maybe they
don't know that their dog is keeping you awake. If they don't do
anything, call Animal Control. They can tell your neighbors to be
more careful with their dog.

If your neighbors keep stealing your newspaper, you could try

talking to them about it. But if you don't want to do that, you could
start getting up earlier. Then you can catch up with the newspaper
before they do. If your neighbors are always asking you for things,
you could say no. Or you could ask them for something in return. For
example, if they always ask you for sugar, you can ask them for
coffee.

If your neighbors are very different from you, try to get to know
them. Maybe you can find something in common. For example,
maybe you both like soccer. If you have children, you can ask your
neighbors to look after them. That way, you can have some time
alone. And if your neighbors have children, you can offer to look after
them too. That way, you can get to know each other better.

READ THE DIALOG PAYING ATTENTION TO
THE PHRASES IN BOLD

Sara: Hey, Gemma. How are you doing?

Gemma: Not great to be honest. Jeremy and I fell out last night. We
broke up.
Sara: Oh no, what happened?
Gemma: It's just been a long time coming. We're just so different. I
don't know how we lasted this long.
Sara: But I thought things were going well with you two. I mean,
from the outside, everything seemed perfect.
Gemma: That's the thing. We weren't really communicating our problems.
They just piled up until they became too much to handle.
Sara: Hmm, yeah I can understand that. So have you talked to him
since?
Gemma: No, not yet. I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong.
Maybe if I come across some of my mistakes, I can make it
work.
Sara: Well, maybe you should try talking to him. See if he wants to give it
another shot.
Gemma: I don't know, Sara. Do you think it's worth it?
Sara: It could be. And even if it doesn't work out, at least you'll know you
tried to make it better.
Gemma: Yeah, you're right. I'll reach out to him today.
Sara: Good for you! You guys can come up with a solution together.
Gemma: Thanks for your support, Sara. You always know just what to say.
