Natural disasters

A natural disaster is any sort of naturally occurring adverse event. This means that any negative and
catastrophic event caused by natural processes (such as the weather or geological activity) is considered
a natural disaster.
There are both natural and man-made causes for these catastrophes. Understanding the causes of
natural disasters is essential for implementing measures to mitigate their impact, improve disaster
preparedness, and enhance resilience in vulnerable communities. Since the beginning of man's
interaction with the environment, many problems have appeared, which usually result in tragedies
mostly caused by pollution, deforestation and global warming.
Earthquakes and tsunamis are natural events caused by the sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust,
due to the movement of tectonic plates. These seismic waves can force people to evacuate their homes,
leading to temporary or long-term displacement. These can happen world-wide but they are most
common in Japan, reaching 1500 earthquakes per year.
Floods are described as the overflow of water onto lands. This can happen due to heavy rains, but the
main reason is the human race. The increase of the greenhouse effects causes the melting of icebergs in
both north and south poles leading to the sea level rise. The floods, such as earthquakes, destroy
peoples housing, but also devastates crops and ecosystems.
Cyclones, also known as hurricanes or typhoons depending on the region, are powerful storms defined
by strong rotating winds and heavy rainfall. They form over the oceans and develop in areas of low
pressure and high humidity. Cyclones can be very dangerous hitting top speed around 300 km/h. They
also can disrupt transportation, communication, and essential services. The most powerful hurrican ever
listed was the Hurricane Patricia achieving maximum sustained winds of 345km/h.
Droughts and Wildfires
These waterless events even though they seem very diferente their source is very similar. They are
originated by global warming that reduces the precipitation levels that creates droughts. The
combination of these droughts with strong winds and high temperatures tends to create fires The
longest dry period ever recorded was 172 months lasting from 10 October 1903 to 1 January 1918 in
Arica, Chile.
Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and wildfires, are caused by a combination of
natural processes and human activities. While humans cannot prevent all natural disasters, like tectonic
movement and ocean currents, there are steps that can be taken to reduce their impact and mitigate
their effects.
Stopping global warming, wich is the main cause of the fatality, requires a comprehensive approach that
addresses the root causes of climate change and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. We can help by
adapting our energy source to a renewable and emission free one, something like solar panels or even
aeolic generators.
The effect that this chatastrophic events have in humans can be devestating and can make someone
homeless, so i think that to reduce the direct impact that has in people can be to build stonger
infrastructures of peoples houses, the conservation of forest with the creation of roads that prevent the
spread of the fire, and even predict what is going to happend and exile the living creatures.
However, the success of these solutions is contingent upon overcoming human selfishness and short-
term economic interests. The pursuit of profit and power can lead to a reluctance to adopt
environmentally friendly practices and policies
