2 Warm-up minutes -T greets SS Greeting -T: Welcome to my class. -T asks one of the SS to write the date on the BB. 25 Presentation: minutes - T writes the following dialogue on the BB Setting the scene Safae: Have you seen the teacher? I can’t find him. Sarah: He could be in class. Safae: No, he is not. I have just been there. Dialogue Sarah: Perhaps he is in the administration. They had a meeting this morning. -T asks SS to read the dialogue at least twice. -T asks SS to look at the dialogue and answer the following questions: -T: What is Safae doing? -SS: Asking Sarah about the teacher. -T: Good, so how do you know? Which expression does she use? -SS: “Have you seen the teacher?” Q/A -T: Excellent. -T: What is Sarah response? => SS: “He could…..” -T: Good. So is she sure? => SS: No, she isn’t. -T: How do you know? => SS: because she says “could” then “perhaps”. -T draws the following chart on the BB. -T asks SS to give other expressions they know. -T elicits answers from SS and writes them on the BB. -T fills in the chart. Expressing possibility - It is possible ….. Chart - It/he/she could……. - He/she/it may……….. - He/she/it might……… Eliciting - Perhaps…………. - Probably…………. - Possibly……………. - Maybe……………… Checking comprehension -T reads out an exchange between A and B and sees whether SS will notice something wrong. Ali: Do you know where the room 9 is? Negative Rashid: Thank you. checking -T: What do you think? What’s wrong? -SS: Rashid needs to give information not to say “thank you”. -T: Good. So what can you say to Ali? -SS: Maybe it is above the room X. 10 Practice: Replacement minutes -T asks SS to do the activity 2 on page 115. drills -T asks SS to do the activity 3 on the same page.
