Learning
Competency 1. Characterize the phases of the cell cycle and
their control points. STEM_BIO11/12-Id-f-6
2. Describe the stages of mitosis/meiosis given.
STEM_BIO11/12-Id-f-7
3. Explain the significance or applications of Level Grade 11
mitosis. STEM_BIO11/12-Id-f-8
4. Identify disorders and diseases that result from
the malfunction of the cell during the cell
cycle. STEM_BIO11/12-Id-f-9

Learning At the end of the lesson the learners will be able to…
Objectives Week No. 4
1. Describe each stage in the cell cycle.
2. Characterize the phases of mitosis and its
control points.
3. Explain the process of cytokinesis.
4. Explain the importance of mitosis.
5. Identify some disorders and diseases that Wednesday -
Day
result from the malfunction of the cell Thursday
during the cell cycle.
6. Examine mitotic stages in an onion root
tip using a compound microscope.

PROCEDURE

Element of
Suggested Activities
the Plan

Awareness Motivation:
- Let student watch a video about an anime called Naruto.
- The video is all about how Naruto duplicate himself before having a fight to
someone.
- Let the student observe and analyze the video.
- Afterwards, ask some questions that will lead to the topic.
- Let them know that our cells are dividing.

o Students will be divided into five (5) groups.

o Give groups of students a set of mitosis task cards about the stages of
Mitosis.
o Ask them to sequence the steps of mitosis and list down in a piece of paper.
o Let them work on this for awhile before you tell them the correct sequence.
Talk through what is happening in each stage.
Activity o Then give them the labels and define the prefixes for each stage. See if they
can match the name of the stages.
- Inter – interphase means “between”
- Pro – prophase means “advance”
- Meta – metaphase means ” along with”
- Ana – anaphase means “up or apart”
- Telo – telophase means “final or distant”

o The explanation activities will become much more engaging once they
have completed the activity.
Analysis o Let student share their ideas about the stages of Mitosis and keep theur
answers for a while.
o Tell students they will be learning more about mitosis as well as another
kind of cell division called meiosis.
Abstraction Discuss the following to the students:
- The Interphase
- The different checkpoints in Interphase. (Gap1, S and Gap2)
- Discuss the Stages of Mitosis further. (Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and
Telophase)
- Explain further about Cytokinesis.

Application After explaining and discussing about Mitosis,

- Ask students the importance of Cell Division.
- Tell students about the disorders and disease that result from the malfunction
of the cell during the cell cycle.
