Communication Class End of Semester Reflection Short Story

“...and your assignment for this week is to read Chapter 9,” says the teacher. That was all that

Ryan had remembered from that day’s lesson. He had not listened to a single word that his

teacher had said during the entire class. He knew he would be in big trouble because he needed

to know all this stuff for any future classes.

This is not the first time this has happened. Ryan had also struggled with listening during lessons

when he was with his tutor a couple of times, as well as with family when they tried to prepare

him for major assignments in school.

It became clear that Ryan needed to do a better job at paying attention in class. His mind needed

to produce the skill of remembering, the ability to recall information once it’s been understood.

So, when next week’s lesson came, Ryan came prepared to listen and learn. When the teacher

spoke, he made sure to take notes during the lesson, writing down what she told the class so that

he could remember it for any future lessons and/or assignments.
