Short Vowel - CVC Words


K/1st Phonics 2nd / 3rd RTI Differentiated No-Prep
Teacher Notes
The cards in this packet are short a cvc words common for Kindergarten.

The cards are set up so that students:


1. say the sounds (segmented)
2. blend the sounds
3. say it fast

If the beginning and ending sounds are


continuous sounds, the blending dotted lines
start and end before and after the letter
to show it’s a continuous sound.

If it’s a stop sound, the blending line starts


and stops at that sound. When teaching
students to blend the sounds, emphasize
the continuous flow of the sounds. Stop
sounds will be quickly blended with vowel
sound next to them.

Printing
All the cards are created full-page to use whole class. Print on
card stock or post them on your board to create a hard
surface. Laminate for durability.

You can also print the cards four to a page, hole punch, and
place them on a ring or use them in an interactive notebook. The
smaller size is great for small groups or individual students.
