Appendix 1: Portfolio
Procedure:

 The teacher distributes handouts after students complete the reading lesson.
 The teacher asks students to do their portfolio with an aim of reflecting on their ability to main ideas
and extract specific information from other texts.

Unit 9 Demo:
For your reading portfolio, you are required to find a text related to the topic “SOCIAL ISSUES” to read
and reflect on what you have found.
In your portfolio, you should include:
1. TITLE (What is the name of the text?)
2. SOURCE (Where did you find it?)
3. SUMMARY (What are the main ideas and specific information included in the text?)
4. USEFUL VOCABULARY (List FIVE most useful words/collocations and their meaning that you have
learned from the text.)

Work in groups. Read the situation below and think of some possible responses. Provide reasons.
“Your friend is skipping classes frequently. He/She says that every teen does it sometimes, and you
should do it as well.
Procedure:
Step 1: Individual
Each student should give at least one response (and the reason) related to the scenario.
Step 2: Pair
Ss discuss in pairs, share their ideas with their partners, and discuss a better response for the scenario
by giving reasons.
Step 3: Small group (4-6 students)
Ss discuss in small groups. Each group will explain their reason for the response in order to achieve a
better response (e.g. practicality, morality,...)
Step 4: Big group (the whole class)
Share the final response and reason and encourage students to vote for the most suitable response.
