1. Introduction to Graphics Designing.

Graphic design is a craft where professionals create visual content to communicate messages.
By applying visual hierarchy and page layout techniques, designers use typography and
pictures to meet users' specific needs and focus on the logic of displaying elements in
interactive designs, to optimize the user experience.
5

1.1. How to Choose a Graphic Design Software.

Graphic Design is composing visual elements to communicate a message. It’s essentially moving
words and images around in the most aesthetically pleasing way and choosing a cohesive color
scheme.

Almost everyone these days has to make graphic design decisions on a regular basis, like where to
place text on a social media post, how to place photos in a collage, creating a logo for a YouTube
page, creating a spreadsheet or PowerPoint presentation for work, or making an evite for an event.

1.2. Designing Software’s.

Various graphics design software options are commercially employed by designers and companies.
Among them, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva stand out as some of the most commonly
utilized tools in the field of design.

 Adobe Illustrator
 Adobe Photoshop
 Canva
 CorelDraw
 Sketch
 Figma

1.3. Adobe Photoshop.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. for Windows and
macOS. It was originally created in 1987 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, the software has
become the most used tool for professional digital art, especially in raster graphics editing.
6

1.4. Adobe Illustrator.

It sets the standard for professionally designed logos, artwork, infographics, and icons. Illustrator is
also constantly developing new features for users; with their new Generative Recolor tool, for example,
customers can use the power of AI to explore limitless color palettes and themes.

1.5. Raster vs Vector Graphics.

Raster graphics, a type of digital image that uses tiny rectangular pixels, or picture elements, arranged
in a grid formation to represent an image.

Vector graphics are digital images created from a series of geometrically defined points, lines, and
shapes. By contrast, digital artists create raster images using a grid of colorized pixels. If you zoom in
on a raster image, the individual pixels become pronounced and visible.
7

2. Basic Selections of Adobe Photoshop.

In Photoshop, there are different types of selection tools, namely Rectangular Marquee tool,
Elliptical Marquee tool, Single Row Marquee tool, Single Column Marquee tool, Lasso tool,
Polygonal Lasso tool, Magnetic Lasso tool, Object Selection tool, Quick Selection tool, Magic
Wand tool, Pen Tool, Freeform Pen tool.

2.1. Rectangular Marquee Tool.

The Rectangular Marquee tool is used for making rectangular selections within an image. It is among the
most basic of tools, and appears in most every image editing program available. It can be used to prepare
an image for cropping, while the similar Crop tool automatically completes the crop when used.

2.2. Elliptical Marquee Tool.

The Elliptical Marquee Tool, which is what we'll be looking at here, is another of Photoshop's basic
selection tools. It's nearly identical to the Rectangular Marquee Tool and works much the same way. In
fact, the only real difference is that the Elliptical Marquee Tool allows us to draw oval or circular
selections.

2.3. Single Row Marquee Tool.

Single column marquee tool is used to make a 1-pixel wide vertical selection, which is not quite useful
but we should know about it. By pressing the shift + M you can switch to the vertical marquee tool.
8

2.4. Single Column Marquee Tool.

Single column marquee tool is used to make a 1-pixel wide vertical selection, which is not quite useful
but we should know about it. By pressing the shift + M you can switch to the vertical marquee tool.
9

2.5. Lasso Tool.

The Lasso tool is helpful for drawing a free-form border around a selected object within an image. It
allows you to soften the edges of your selection or add a feathering effect; it's also useful for anti-
aliasing.

2.6. Polygonal Lasso Tool.

This tool is used to select box shapes or flat edges, etc. This lasso tool creates a straight line in between
each mouse click. So, just simply click on any edge of the area that you want to select and release your
mouse pointer, this will create a starting point or anchor point.
10

2.7. Magnetic Lasso Tool.

This tool is used to select box shapes or flat edges, etc. This lasso tool creates a straight line in between
each mouse click. So, just simply click on any edge of the area that you want to select and release your
mouse pointer, this will create a starting point or anchor point.

2.8. Object Selection Tool.

11

The Object Selection tool is useful for automatically selecting objects or regions such as people, cars,
pets, sky, water, buildings, plants, and mountains in an image. Select the Object Selection tool (W)
from the toolbar in the workspace.

2.9. Quick Selection Tool.

The Quick Selection tool looks at the colors in the picture you're editing, and uses them to figure out
where one object ends and another begins. As such, the Quick Selection tool works best on pictures with
many different colors and contrasts. It's great for selecting backgrounds, isolated objects, and other
things that are clearly separate from everything around them.

2.10. Magic Wand Tool.

12

The Magic Wand tool automatically selects an object or area of your image, using machine learning to
discern what you might be trying to select. If you click on the sky, it selects the sky; click on a person's
face, and you have the entire face selected in just seconds.

2.11. Direct Selection Tool.

The Direct Selection Tool selects and moves existing path's / vector shape mask's segments / anchor
points: In the Toolbox, select the Direct Selection Tool. Drag on the image to select a path or shape
segment or click directly on an anchor point to select it.

2.12. Move Tool.

When it comes to Photoshop, some of the simplest functions can deliver a surprising amount of utility.
At face value, the Move tool can seem mundane. This tool, however, delivers an amazing level of
functionality. It’s capable of interacting with any object in your document, and that allows you to achieve
results almost as easily as cutting real objects by hand and moving them around in the actual world.
13

2.13. Blur Tool.

Photoshop blur tool is one of the finest tools available in Photoshop for beautifying pictures. It can be
useful for multiple scenarios such as blurring someone's face or blurring the secret information in your
image graphics, and so on.

2.14. Sharpen Tool.

The Sharpen tool, which enables you to tighten up a picture and make it clearer by making it sharper.
However, when it is used, it’s important that you be careful because overusing it can make your images
appear too grainy or noisy. The best way to use this tool is to take care and use a light hand.
14

2.15. Smudge Tool.

The Smudge tool is a Photoshop feature that allows you to mix or blend the content in an area of your
image. It is included among the program’s Focus tools and works a lot like painting in real life. Used
correctly, this tool can help you create a variety of unique artistic effects.

2.16. Dodge Tool.

15

Dodge is part of a pair of tools that accomplish similar but opposite tasks. Its companion tool is the
Burn tool. Here is an overview of Dodge and how you can use it to create stunning depth and rich
texture in photos.

2.17. Workspace Adjustment Panel.

Go up to the Window menu, choose Workspace, and then choose New Workspace. Or, click on the
Workspace icon and choose New Workspace. In the New Workspace dialog box, enter the exact same
name as the existing workspace.
16

3. Text Tool, Shape Tool and Brush Tool.

3.1. Text Tool.

Go up to the Window menu, choose Workspace, and then choose New Workspace. Or, click on the
17

Workspace icon and choose New Workspace. In the New Workspace dialog box, enter the exact same
name as the existing workspace.

3.2. Horizontal Type Tool.

The Horizontal Type tool allows you to add horizontal text to your images. Select the Horizontal Type
tool (T) . Use the Options bar to customize tool settings, like Font Style, Font Size, and, Text Color, to
get the effect you want. Add point text (to add a few words like a heading or title) or paragraph text.
18

3.3. Vertical Type Tool.

This tool allows you to create basic text that is written on a vertical plane (from top to bottom)

3.4. Text Colors and Properties.

To change the color of the text, click the color swatch at the top right of the toolbar. Choose either the
Horizontal Type tool or Vertical Type tool, click on the canvas, and type the desired content. Modify
text properties: Access the Character panel to change attributes like font type, size, alignment, color,
and opacity.
19

3.5. Typography.

Typography simply means creating such an impactful and emphatic typeface (text type) that will grab
the reader's attention instantly. Many times text generally gets hidden in the background of the
website, ad flyers, promotions, and it cannot give as much force to the reader to take the wordings
into consideration.

3.6. 3D Text.
20

3.7. Shape Tools.

The basic Shape tools allow you to form your photos and projects into rectangles, make circles, ellipses
and polygons, but Photoshop also offers a Custom Shape tool. This tool allows you to add various stock
shapes to an image, like music notes, hearts and flowers.

3.8. Circle Tool.

Position the pointer on the canvas, then click and drag to draw an ellipse. Hold the Shift key as you
drag if you want to make a circle. To begin the shape from the center, click and then press the Alt
(Win) / Option (Mac) key while dragging the mouse to create the shape.

3.9. Rectangle Tool.

The Rectangle tool allows you to draw rectangular shapes (vector and pixel-based) and paths (shape
outlines). Select the Rectangle tool (U) . Use the Options bar to customize tool settings, like Fill,
Stroke, Width, and Height, to get the effect you want. Draw shapes or paths on the canvas.
21

3.10. Polygonal Tool.

The Polygon tool, located among the various Shapes tools on the sidebar, allows you to create equally
sided polygon shapes to play with and manipulate into your masterpiece.

3.11. Star Tool.

You can use the Polygon tool to create custom shapes, including a unique star with exactly the number
of points you want.

3.12. Line Tool.

The Line Tool allows you to draw a two-point line on the canvas. Lines can be drawn as vector shapes,
paths, or pixels. Choose Shape mode if you want to make a non-destructive, scalable line that you can
edit at a later date. Choose Pixels mode when working with rasterized content such as pixel art.
22

3.13. Change Color.

Changing the Color of a Placed Shape

Simply select the shape layer in the Layers panel. Look up in the Options bar on the left-hand side.
You'll see a Fill box up there as well. Click on it and you'll get the same color options as was presented
in the Properties panel.
23

3.14. Stroke and Fill Color.

Choose Edit > Fill Layer, or Edit > Fill Selection. Set options in the Fill dialog box, and then click OK.
Choose a color from the Use menu. To select a different color, choose Color, and then select a color
from the Color Picker.

3.15. Brush Tool.

Using the Brush tool

It's easy to use the Brush tool to paint in your document. Simply locate and select the Brush tool from
the Tools panel, then click and drag in the document window to paint. You can also press the B key
on your keyboard to select the Brush tool at any time.
24

3.16. Eye Dropper Tool.

The Eyedropper tool is used to select a color from an image or any Photoshop document. Or in
other words, the eyedropper tool is used to sample a color from the given image and use that
sample color in whatever way you want, like in the background, foreground, etc.

3.17. Background Changing.

You can transform white backgrounds into bright pops of color in just a few steps with Photoshop.
Changing the background of your photo or design is a quick and easy way to elevate any project.
Swap out one color for a different shade, make a transparent or textured background, create a
gradient for an ombre effect, and so much more. Whatever your creative goals, take your designs
further by switching up the background.
25

4. Adobe Photoshop Photo Manipulation.

4.1. Basic Photo Correction.

With our image open in Photoshop, let's first take a moment to set up our Levels command properly.
Go up to the Image menu at the top of the screen, choose Adjustments, and then choose Levels, or use
the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+L (Win) / Command+L (Mac). Either way brings up Photoshop's Levels dialog
box. In the bottom right corner, you'll see three eyedropper icons. Double-click on the one on the left,
which is the white point eyedropper:

4.2. Image Resolution.

Dimensions are the total number of pixels along the width and height of an image. Resolution is the
number of image pixels assigned to each inch when an image is printed - measured in pixels per inch
(PPI). Thus, the more pixels an image has per inch, the greater will be its resolution. And, a high-
resolution image will produce a better quality printed output.
26

When changing the Dimensions or Resolution, remember that the image data remains constant until
you resample it. If you change the resolution, the width and height will change accordingly to maintain
the same amount of image data.

4.3. Straightening and cropping the image in Photoshop.

Cropping is the process of removing portions of a photo to create focus or strengthen the
composition. Use the Crop tool to crop and straighten photos in Photoshop. The Crop tool is non-
destructive, and you can choose to retain the cropped pixels to optimize the crop boundaries later.
The Crop tool also provides intuitive methods to straighten a photo while cropping.
27

4.4. Spot Healing Brush tool.

The Spot Healing Brush tool magically removes unwanted spots, marks, or small objects in your image.
Photoshop selects and replaces pixels from another part of your image to blend in seamlessly.

4.5. Clone Stamping tool.

The Clone Stamp tool has clone in its name because it can use other areas of your project to hide
unwanted items. Use a background texture like a brush to paint over other objects with the Clone Stamp
tool, either from a specific layer or the entire image. Read on to discover all you can do with this versatile
tool.
28

5. Layer Panels and Layer Styles.

5.1. Background Layer.

The background layer is created automatically when you open an image in Photoshop and is typically
locked by default. This means you cannot directly edit or move the background layer without first
converting it to a regular layer.

5.2. Hide, view, reposition, delete, and rename Layers.

29

5.3. Layer Styles.

Layer styles are linked to the layer contents. When you move or edit the contents of the layer, the
effects are modified correspondingly. Once you choose Layer > Layer Style > Style Settings, you can edit
the settings of a layer's style or apply other style settings or attributes available in the dialog box.

6. Gradient Features.

6.1. What is Gradient?

The Gradient tool allows you to create gradual changes of color and light across an image with power
and precision. You can use different types of gradients to blend with or overlay other images to create
stunning backdrops for logo designs, poster art, stylized photos, and more.
30

6.2. How to make Gradient?

There are a number of different types of gradients you can create in Photoshop, including linear ones
that go in a straight line, radial ones that form a circle and angular gradients that shade in a counter-
clockwise sweep. There are also reflected gradients that mirror linear gradients and diamond gradients
that shade from the middle to the outer corners of your image.

6.3. What is Gradient Mask?

Open a photo that has some empty space on one side.

Press Ctrl J to duplicate the photo layer.

In the Layers panel, click on the Background layer.

31

To choose a color that goes with your photo, click on the Foreground Color Chip to get the Color Picker.
Click with your cursor on a color from your photo, or choose a new color from the Color Picker. Click OK.

In the Menu Bar, choose Edit > Fill. When the dialog box comes up, open the Contents menu and choose
Foreground Color. The Blending Mode should be Normal and the Opacity 100%. Click OK. You won’t see
the color because it’s hidden by your duplicate photo layer.

6.4. Fading images together

A gradient mask lets you quickly fade images together into a collage. With at least two images on
separate layers within the same document, position the image you want on the top of your collage at
the top of the layer stack. Add a layer mask to it by clicking the circle-within-a-square icon at the bottom
of your Layers panel in Photoshop; it’s at the top of the Layers panel in Photoshop Elements’ Expert
Mode (in Pixelmator, choose Layer > Add Layer Mask).
32

6.5. Fading color to black and white

Softly fading a color image to black and white is another creative and impactful effect. To start, add a
black and white effect to your image. In Photoshop, click the half-black/half-white circle at the bottom
of the Layers panel and choose Black & White. In Elements’ Expert mode, press D to set the color chips
at the bottom of the Tools panel to black and white, and then press X until black hops on top.

6.6. Fading solid color into a photo

By fading a solid color onto one side of a photo, you create a safe spot for text, which is handy for
photographic announcements (invitations, announcements, etc). It’s easily done by adding a solid color
fill layer at the top of your layer stack and then using the Gradient tool in the mask that comes with the
layer. To do it in Photoshop and Elements, choose Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color and choose
33

whatever color you want in the resulting Color Picker. In Pixelmator, add a new layer at the top of your
layer stack, fill it with color, then add a layer mask. Configure the Gradient tool as described earlier and,
with the layer mask active, click and drag within your document where you want the color to begin.

6.7. Creating a photo reflection

Reflections are great for adding depth or making an object look like it was photographed on another
surface (say, a reflective table). The basic gist of this technique is to duplicate an image layer and flip it
vertically. In Photoshop, you can do this in one fell swoop by pressing Option while choosing Edit > Free
Transform> Flip Vertically. In Elements, duplicate the layer and choose Image > Flip Layer Vertical. In
Pixelmator, duplicate the image layer and choose Edit > Flip Vertical. Use the Crop tool in those apps
to add about two screen inches of extra canvas space at the bottom of your document, and then with
the Move tool active, Shift-drag the duplicate layer beneath the original image (they should almost
touch).
34

6.8. Faded text

You can use a gradient mask to fade text into a photo, which makes the text feel like it’s part of the
scene. Once you add some text to your document, add a layer mask to the text layer and then configure
the Gradient tool as described above. With the mask active, mouse over to your document and Shift-
drag upward from near the bottom of the letters.

7. Professional Logos and Social Media Designing.

7.1. Professional Logo

35

If you're wondering how to make a logo in Photoshop, we should first make an important clarification.
Photoshop was not created to design logos. While Photoshop is certainly about a lot more than just
photos, and it offers a huge suite of tools for designers and illustrators, there's a reason why it isn't
usually used to make logos.

7.2. Social Media Post Design/Banner Design Templates

36

8. Fundamentals of design/ exploring Adobe Illustrator.

8.1. Line

If you need to draw a simple straight line, the easiest way is to use the Line Segment Tool (keyboard
shortcut \). Simply select the tool from the toolbar, hold the Shift key, click and drag on the Artboard to
create a straight line.

8.2. Shapes

The Shape Tools are a small group of tools that can be used to quickly make generic rectangles, ellipses,
stars, and polygons using the Rectangle Tool, Ellipse Tool, Star Tool, and Polygon Tool respectively.
37

8.3. Colors

We can use the color models in digital graphics to define the colors of our artwork. Color models use
numeric value to represent the visible spectrum of color in the computer and represent a different
method of describing and classifying color.
38

8.4. Texture

Texture means adding extra highlights to any object, which enhances the detailing of that area and
helps in understanding the purpose of that particular area in the artwork. You can also use Texture in
Illustrator to make your imagination come true in your artwork with your idea.

8.5. Fill & Stroke effects

A fill is a color, pattern, or gradient inside an object. You can apply fills to open and closed objects and
to faces of Live Paint groups. A stroke can be the visible outline of an object, a path, or the edge of a
Live Paint group.
39

8.6. Zooming

The zoom tool allows you to zoom in and out quickly by clicking on your Artboard. Press Z on the
keyboard to use the zoom tool.

8.7. Duplicating objects

An object can be duplicated in Adobe Illustrator by copying it (Command / Ctrl + C) and pasting it to
the front (Command / Ctrl + F) and to the back (Command / Ctrl + B). A new object will be located
above or beneath our original object and the contours of both objects will match.

8.9. Rulers & guides

Guides help you align text and graphic objects. You can pull ruler guides from the ruler (View > Rulers
> Show). You can lock these guides with View > Guides > Lock Guides. You also have Hide and show
options here.
40

8.10. Smart Guides

These grids allow the user to align artwork and objects precisely and accurately without committing
any mistakes. These rulers help you divide a page into thirds, quarters, fifths, sixths, sevenths, and
more – with no guesswork.
41

9. Adobe Illustrator Tools.

9.1. Creating shape vectors

Vector artwork is art that's made up of vector graphics. These graphics are points, lines, curves and
shapes that are based on mathematical formulas. When you scale a vector image file, it isn't low
resolution and there's no loss of quality, so it can be sized to however large or small you need it to
be.

9.2. Pen Tool

It allows you to create shapes with freeform curves. Found in the Toolbar, the Pen Tool is probably the
most powerful drawing tool you can find in Adobe Illustrator. If you need to replicate any curves, you
can do so with the Pen Tool.
42

9.3. Curvature tool

The Pen Tool makes straight paths, but it can also make curved lines if you click and drag it. The
Curvature Tool makes curved paths, but it can also make straight paths if you double click. You can edit
paths as you create them.

9.4. Type Tool

43

The Type Tools, which consists of the Type Tool, Type on a Path Tool, and Vertical Type Tool, can all be
used to create graphics with unique, customizable text.

9.5. Paint Brush Tool

The paintbrush tool is one of the tools found in the tools palette. It works in a similar way to the pencil
tool, in that you click and drag the path. You can even apply the brush stroke to a pre-determined path.
By using the paintbrush tool and options you can create vector images that are quite complex.
