Environmental Awareness Programme

On the account of World Environmental Day

celebration on June 5th, 2022, to JSS Academy Of Higher

Education and Research had conducted awareness

programme in various government school in Mysore

locality for school going students. The theme for this year

was “ Only One Earth” which was the same theme of the

year 1974 when the Environmental Day celebrated for the

first time. The whole program was sponsored by

“Walkmate Footware” company.

 The awareness programme was conducted

on June 7th as June 5th was Sunday. The

students from department of Environmental

Science, the students from Master’s in public

health as well as the faculty of the EVS

department and the MPH department were also

involved in the programme. The students and

the faculty were made into groups and allotted

to different schools. There were around six

members in each group including the teachers

in charged.

I was allotted to the Government School

Varuna with 3 other members one was from

EVS department and the other two were from

MPH department. We conducted programmes

in both primary and high school section. As a

part of creating awareness among students we

conducted various activities like awareness

speech drawing competition and planting

saplings.
1. DRAWING COMPETITION

The theme of drawing competition was “Save Earth”.

Around 20 students from high school and 15 students from

primary level took part in the competition. The time allotted

was 1:30 hours. With the help of drawing teacher Mr.

Harish we judge drawings on the basis of their creativity,

skills, presentation we declared the winners and distributed

the prize which was sponsored by “Walkmate” company.

We gave participatory certificates for all the students who

took part in the competition.

2. AWARNESS SPEECH

One of our members from the group gave an awareness

speech regarding the theme and importance of

environmental day celebration. We made the section

interactive with students. We gave a platform for the

students to share their view, thought and opinion about

environmental day and how they can conserve in future.

3.Planting

There were totally 8 saplings with the help of the principal

and teachers in the school as well as the students we planted

all the saplings . We planted 4 saplings in the primary and in

the high school.

CONCLUSION

Everyone co-operate well and made the day great

successful. We thank all the faculties of department of

Environmental science and MPH for giving this wonderful

opportunity, especially the Walkmate Footwear company

who sponsored this program for the student of JSS Academy

as well as the Varuna government school for making this

program successful.

PROMOTING TERRACE GARDEN

 With the intention of promoting terrace garden in

Mysore residential area I distributed packet of seeds

in houses and created awareness about the

importance of terrace gardening in houses. Main

purpose of promoting terrace gardening in houses is

because of limited space in houses people need to

largely depend on the vegetables from market, which

is highly toxicated . Causes severe health issues often

taking those toxic vegetables and fruits in future.

About Seed Packets

The seed packet I have collected from one

of the agricultural office in Wayanad “Krishi

Bhavan”. Seed packets contains seeds of chilly, beans,

spinach , ladies finger, tomato.

I have distributed packet of seeds around 6 houses. In each

houses two packet of seeds, I have distributed and encourage

them to promote terrace gardening. Made them to sow.

CONCLUSION

Terrace gardening not only promote Organic vegetable

and fruit but also it helps in producing indoor temperature.

It is beneficial in terms of utilization of space and

environmental sanitization. By conducting this activity, I

could clearly conclude that terrace gardening one of the best

methods for people in Mysore residential areas to consume

organic food.
