Answer the following questions below with your understanding with the

discussion. Remember to write 3-4 sentences for each question in this task to
keep it concise while conveying your thoughts. For the format, refer to your
previous tasks. Good luck! I know that you can do it!

 By differentiating ‘acoustic’ and ‘auditory’ phonetics, what can you

observe on how people speak or communicate with each other?
As defined, acoustic phonetics is a speech’s acoustic
characteristics or physical properties of the sound we produce, and
auditory phonetics is the articulated sound characteristics viewed from
different perspectives; from that, I became more observant of the way
people speak. When we speak, we produce sound waves, which reach
our ears, and enables us to communicate with each other using speech.
I also think that due to the vibration that sound waves cause, the
meaning of our speech gets more emphasized and we can convey our
thoughts properly.

 Studying speech sound is way closer to natural sciences like biology and
physics than linguistics. How can you make this fact clearer?
Linguistics studies the evolution of language, while the study of
speech sound or phonetics studies the physical production of sounds. In
phonetics, we study the vocal organs of human beings as well as the
points of articulation. The reason being the simultaneous activities that
take place the moment we open our mouths. Also, the presence of
complex words in this branch of linguistics that you’d normally see in
science classes proves that it is closer to science than linguistics itself.
