based within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at
Coventry University.

Research inspired and practice-led, our school and its staff are

As a school, we share a passion for the biological basis of


human health and disease, analysis of the chemical composition
of materials and the evaluation and defence of forensic evidence
against legal challenge. We also focus on the application of
scientific principles to the way the body functions during sport
and physical activity, prevention and treatment of injuries, food
science, and nutrition and diet-related health issues.

By being part of our school, you can expect to be offered a range

Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences (CSELS)
Research within the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences
(CSELS) reflects a broad strength of sport, exercise and biological

molecular biology, biochemistry, nutrition and food science, safety
pharmacology, physiology, physical activity and sport performance.

Researcher profile
Professor Mike Duncan is a BASES accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist with research
interests in the field of children, physical activity, exercise and obesity and has published over 150
publications. He is a member of the European College of Sports Science, American College of
Sports Medicine, United Kingdom Strength and Conditioning Association and a Fellow of the
British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Mike has experience in working with elite athletes in prescribing exercise programmes and
evaluating performance. He has also worked extensively with community groups on topics such
as physical activity interventions in children and adolescents and the effects of nutritional
manipulation on cognitive and functional performance in older adults.
