What should you avoid or What should you include in

 Sugar,  Cereals: Refined  Whole grains and millets


 Glucose, flour(Maida),suji white like- wheat, jowar ,Bajra,
 Honey, bread, Noodles, rice etc Oats, Ragi. (upma, brown
 Sweets, rice suji idly and vermicelli
can be used one in a
 Chocolates and week. )
Candies  Vegetables - Potatoes, Sweet  All others are allowed
 Cream, Cake, Pastry, potato, Arvi, Zimikand,
Biscuits. Yam.

 Fruits - Banana, Mango,  Fruits – Amla, Apricots,


Litchi, Grapes, Dates, Chiku, Apple, Guava, Papaya,
Shareefa,Watermelon, Orange, Pears, Sweet Lime
Pomegranate (Mausmi), Kiwi.

 Milk – Full cream Milk,  Milk- Double Toned and


Khoa cream, Cheese, Paneer, toned, skimmed milk
Butter buttermilk, Curd (cow
milk) etc.
 Meats –Egg Yolk (yellow  Meats- Eggs white
part), Red meat (Mutton (albumin), roasted or
Beef), Fried Chicken and grilled Fish and Chicken or
Fried Fish, organ meats like curry form.
kidney, liver.
 Fats: Butter, Ghee,  Safflower oil, Sunflower,
Margarine, Coconut Ground nut oil in
oil, ,Dalda. moderation, olive oil,
Vegetables.
Miscellaneous: Pepsi, Coca-cola,  Tea coffee in moderation.
and other carbonated beverages.

 Dried nuts- Peanut, Dry Dried nuts- Almond,


coconut, Cashew, Raisins Pistachio, Walnut and
etc. Makhana.

 Deep fried foods- Chips,


Papad, Puri and Samosa etc.  You can take grilled,
roasted or steamed snacks.
Sample Menu Plan for 1600kcal
Early Morning
2-3 Almonds(soaked overnight)+ 2 walnut
Tea/Green tea/ Lemon tea/Milk (1 cup, without sugar)
Fiber based diabetic biscuits only e.g. ( high ,digestive,
Nutrichoice diabetic Ragi & oats )
Breakfast
Dry Chapati (2) + Green Vegetables (1 Bowl) /Small
size of brown bread, whole Wheat bread, Multigrain
Bread/sprouts (2)/ nankeen Dalia/ stuffed roti with
Curd /boiled egg white (1 Daily)

Mid Morning Snack


Fruits/fresh vegetables Salad (1Bowl) / Skimmed
butter milk (1glass)
/apple /guava/pear/papaya/kiwi/orange(100-150gm)

Lunch
Chapati(2) + Cooked Dal (whole pulses 1 bowl) +
Green Vegetables(1bowl) besan kadi (1 bowl)+ Fresh
vegetables Salad(cucumber ,onion, tomato and greens)
( ½ Bowl) + Curd ( ½ glass)
Fish/Chicken – 2 small pieces (weekly two times)

Evening Snack
Tea/Coffee/Green Tea(1cup without
sugar)+Sprouts/oats idli / Masala Dhokla / Black
Chana / Makhana ( ½ bowl) /biscuits

Dinner
Chapati (2) + Cooked Vegetables (1 bowl), Salad
(1bowl)/ Broken Wheat Dalia with more vegetable
(1bowl)

Bedtime
1 glass of Skimmed(double toned/low fat) Milk
Note (no sugar ,jaggery , or honey in milk)

Note: 1 glass = 150 ml, 1 cup = 120 ml, 1 bowl = 150gm, 1 tbsp = 15gm, 1tsp = 5gm.
HEALTHY EATING IS IMPORTANT
FOODS TO LIMIT TO SPECIAL FOODS SUITABLE TO EAT
OCCASIONS EVERYDAY
 High sugar containing foods  High fibers foods
 High fat foods  Protein foods
 Foods with high salt content  Vegetables and certain foods

Things to remember
 Restrict rice to one meal a day.
 Have green leafy vegetables twice a day.
 Fruits with edible skin are perfect to fruits juices.
 Remove cream from milk, curds, buttermilk.
 Reduce the consumption of oil, salt, all spices and coconut used in cooking.
 Do not add soda or baking powder to any foods including dosa, idly batter.
 Do not salt at the table.
 Avoid eating out frequently.
 Have regular timing for meals and have a light dinner 1 and ½ hrs prior to sleep.
 Eat small quantities at frequent intervals.
 Drink plenty of water (atleast2-3 lts per day).
 Avoid alcohol and smoking.
 Start a walk initially for 15 min and gradually increase it to40 min daily. Please consult your doctor
before doing so.
 Include antioxidant and anti-inflammatory rich foods in your diet.
 Antioxidant rich foods(help to lower risk of infection & protect your cells)- Coffee, Garlic, Ginger,
Onion, Lemon, Tomatoes, Walnuts, Guava, Papaya, Apple, Blackberry, Pear, Broccoli, Turmeric,
Green tea, Spinach etc.
 Anti-inflammatory rich foods (reduce your redness, swelling & pain) – Flaxseeds, Green tea,
Turmeric, Avocado, Walnuts, Lemon, Pineapple, Garlic, Broccoli, Fish, Whole grains, Olive oils, etc.
 Diet in hypoglycemia
To raise sugar quickly, choose any one
 Glucose tablets
 2tsp sugar
 A cup of juice (100ml)
 A cup of coke /fanta /limca(100ml)
 6or 7 small hard candies
 A cup of skimmed milk
