1. A 40 kg boy sits 1.5 m away from the fulcrum of the sea saw. How far from the
fulcrum must another boy of 32 kg sit in order to balance the sea-saw?
2. A uniform metre scale weighing l00gf is pivoted at its centre O, two weights
W₁ = 200gf and W₂ = 150 gf hang from the metre scale as shown in the Fig.
Calculate:
to balance the metric scale. [ (a) 5000gf, (b) 6000gf, (c) 1000gf, (d) 10cm]
[ in equilibrium,
4. Verify the principle of moments if you are given a metre scale, a Fulcrum and
masses of 20g, 50g and 100g
5. A uniform metre scale is balanced at 40 cm mark when weights of 20 gf and 5
of are suspended at 5cm and 75 cm mark respectively. Calculate the weight of
metre scale. [52.5 gf]
6. On a sea-saw, two children of weights 30kg and 40 kg are sitting on one side at
a distances of 3 m and 4m respectively from the fulcrum. Where should a man of
weight 75 kg sit to balance it. [ 3.33m]
13. A see-saw 8 m long is balanced in the middle. Two children of mass 30 kgf
and 40 kgf are sitting on the same side of the fulcrum at a distance of 1.5 m and 3.5 m from
the fulcrum respecitvely. Where must a lady weighing 60 kgf sit from the fulcrum, so as to
balance the see-saw? [3.08 m from fulcrum on opposite side]
14.. A uniform wooden beam AB, 80 cm long and weighing 250 gf, is supported
on a wedge as shown in the figure 1.28. Calculate the greatest weight which can
be placed on end A without causing the beam to tilt. [750 gf]
[44.4 g]
