ner with all the fixings prepared for Milan-area seniors each year. The Thanksgiving luncheon was held at the Milan Senior and Community Activity Center, where more than 180 seniors enjoyed a traditional dinner complete with pie for dessert. The good time didnt end with dessert. Raffles for various donated items such as handmade afghans, holiday throws, table runners, homemade jams and jellies, and holiday crafts caused a stir, as the attendees checked their stubs for the winning numbers. A 50/50 raffle paid off big as Jean Munsell won and donated her prize of $114 to the center. Janice Ensor was the first to hit the dance floor and strut her stuff to Ive Got a Woman, an old-time favorite hit from the 1960s performed by Strings and Things. By Joyce Ervin

For Diane Roy of Milan, Thanksgiving was a little more special this year. The local senior citizens found it pleasing to have someone serve her dinner, acknowledging her waiter, Ronland Chinea, a Toyota employee and volunteer, especially when it tastes so good. I even asked for seconds, she said. Roy was fed a complimentary turkey din-

A classic Christmas poem will be the inspiration for a longtime holiday tradition in Milan, as the town gears up for its annual Christmas Parade. The procession will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 3, enchanting spectators with entries inspired by Twas the Night before Christmas, a poem widely attributed to Clement Clarke Moore and Henry Livingston. Im hoping for a mamma in her kerchief and I in my cap scene, said Milan resident Linda Gilson, who has been co-chairwoman of the event with her husband, Jim Gilson, for the last four years. Gilson said the parade was started by the Milan Area Chamber of Commerce and spearheaded by resident Chad Nyitray, who led the event for 14 years. On behalf of the Milan Area Chamber of Commerce, we cant thank our parade co-chairpersons (husband-wife team) enough, said Norma Smith about the Gilsons role in the

Members of a local Girl Scout troop are sending a little piece of home to U.S. soldiers serving around the world. The thoughtfully prepared care packages, comprising everything from lip balm and facial tissue to popcorn and candy, is just the troops way of saying thanks, said Junior Girl Scout Troop 40922 Leader Margie Knechtel. Personally, she said, I dont feel that enough emphasis is given on the sacrifices our soldiers make to ensure our freedoms here. I know that they touch on Veterans Day at school, but I want these girls to know and understand these people leave their lives here and their families, and they do it for their country and our freedoms. The troop, which is made up of fourth-grade students from the Milan area, spent a recent evening at York Baptist

How do you spell sincerely, one of the girls asked as she worked diligently on her letter. We just encouraged the girls to tell something about themselves and to say thank you to the soldiers, Knechtel said. Their letters included some interesting tidbits like: I have never missed a word on a spelling test; or My favorite food is noodles with butter; and I hope you get to have some fun where you are. Knechtel said all of the girls letters were great and that she hopes they bring some cheer to soldiers. I try to put myself in the shoes of the military persons in strange places everywhere, she said. What better thing to get from home than a big thank you from a little girl? Their care packages also included a picture of their group, a patriotic pen and personalized pad of paper. Knechtel said they will send the boxes off to an Arizona-based organization called Packages from Home. The mission of the organization, according to its website www.packagesfromhome.org, is to send
