 Overview

Overview

The Kwant Controls KC 06-K Joysticks are either a three-axis joystick that is used
in Kongsberg Maritime DP systems or a two-axis joystick that is used in Kongsberg
Maritime K-Thrust systems.
The KC 06-K Joystick is used in Kongsberg Maritime DP systems and has three
potentiometers that work in all three axes, i.e. X (Ahead/Astern), Y (Port/Starboard) and
Z (Rotation).
The KC 06-K XY Joystick is used in Kongsberg Maritime K-Thrust systems and has two
potentiometers that only work in two axes, i.e. X (Ahead/Astern) and Y (Port/Starboard).
The KC 06-K XXYY Joystick is used in Kongsberg Maritime K-Thrust systems and
has two pairs of potentiometers that only work in two axes, i.e. one pair in the X axis
(Ahead/Astern) and the other pair in the Y axis (Port/Starboard).

Configuration

The arrangement of the KC 06-K Joystick is shown in Kwant Controls drawing

4A0114756.
The arrangement of the KC 06-K XY Joystick is the similar to the KC 06-K Joystick
except that it does not have the z-axis (rotation) potentiometer and its associated cabling.
The arrangement of the KC 06-K XXYY Joystick is shown in Kwant Controls drawing
4A0120561.
A copy of these two drawings can be found in Attachments on page 13.

KC 06-K Joystick connector

The KC 06-K Joystick connector is a twelve-terminal, tension spring connector with
plugable header. The header can be locked to the connector body by a screw at each
end of the header.

KC 06-K XXYY Joystick connectors

The KC 06-K XXYY Joystick has two identical twelve-terminal, tension spring
connectors each with a plugable header. The header of each connector can be locked to
the connector body by a screw at each end of the header.

Installation

Mechanical preparation before installation

1 Make a cut-out in the console panel plate according to dimensions shown in
Kongsberg Maritime drawing 308830.
A copy of this drawing can be found in Attachments on page 13.
2 Attach bolts to the rear side of the console panel plate for the four fixing nuts of
the joystick.

Operator panel

Electrical installation
1 Place the joystick in its position and fasten the four nuts that attach it to the console
panel plate.
2 Connect the joystick connector(s) to the appropriate panel or cable connector.
3 Provided the corresponding operator station is up and running, verify that the
joystick is functioning OK.
4 If applicable, calibrate the joystick as described in the appropriate Operator Manual.

Replacement

1 Remove bolts that fixes the console panel plate to the console body.
2 Place the console panel plate in a position such that you can gain access on both
sides.
3 Disconnect the defective joystick connector(s) from the panel or cable connector(s)
to which it(they) is(are) connected.
4 Remove the four nuts attaching the defective joystick to the console panel plate.
5 Lift the defective joystick out of the console panel plate.
6 Mark the defective joystick with a label describing the symptoms observed, and then
carefully pack in a shielding bag and store in a secure place.
7 Unpack the new replacement joystick.
8 Place the new replacement joystick in its position and replace the four securing nuts
(removed in step 4) that attach it to the console panel plate.
9 Reconnect the new replacement joystick connector(s) to the appropriate panel
or cable connector(s) from which the defective joystick connector(s) was(were)
disconnected in step 3.
10 Provided the corresponding operator station is up and running, verify that the new
replacement joystick is functioning OK.
11 If applicable, calibrate the new replacement joystick as described in the appropriate
Operator Manual.
