COMMUNICATION

Before cranking up the engine, connect all the plugs to PnPduino. Power on (Key On Engine off)
PnPduino and fuel pump should run for 2 seconds.
● Connect the USB Cable from PnPduino to your Laptop and open Device Manager. Look for Ports
and check the COM PORT number PnPduino is using. Go to Documentation page on How to
Communicate with PnPduino in detail.
● Open Tunerstudio and create a new Project.
● Under Communications > Settings, put the COM PORT number from the Device Manager. It
should connect to Tunerstudio without a problem unless the JP13 is jumpered or the bluetooth
module is ON.
● Check all the readings of Inputs like Inlet Air Temperature (IAT), Engine Coolant Temperature
(ECT), Battery, Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), MAP Sensor and AFR. MAP sensor should read
about ~100kPa if your location is at sea level. TPS Calibration is a must before starting the
engine.

CALIBRATION
TPS Calibration
● Click Tools, then Calibrate TPS
● NOT pressing the throttle pedal, click Get Current beside Closed throttle ADC count
● Reading of TPS should be 0%
● Press the throttle pedal maximum, then click Get Current beside Full throttle ADC Count
● Reading of TPS should be 100%
● Click Accept
● Test the reading of TPS when you fully press the throttle and without.
Take note that sometimes, the value of TPS when the engine is powered on but not running (Key
On Engine Off) is more than 0%, but goes back to 0% when the engine is running. A possibility of
TPS wiring problem or TPS issue can cause this, but it’s better to have a 0% TPS reading while the
engine is running.

MAP and BARO Sensor

By default, PnPduino uses the External OEM Map sensor and it is calibrated from that sensor.
The OEM Map sensor is only good up to about 8 psig and can be damaged if overboost happens.
If you are going to boost it more than the stock map sensor can handle, replace first with a
higher capabled MAP sensor and do the calibration from Tools > Calibrate Pressure Sensors.
The Internal BARO sensor is already calibrated. You can check if it reads ~100 kpa at sea level.

Voltage Reading
Calibration of this Battery Voltage Reading should be done when the engine is running and the
alternator is properly working. This is important for Ignition Dwell and Injector Dead Times.
The best way to do this is measure the voltage at the injector battery supply and battery ground
and not from the battery posts itself.
Temperature Calibration
Calibration of Inlet Air and Engine Coolant Temperature sensors are not required unless using a
different sensor. Bias Resistor value is 2490 ohms.

AFR Sensor Calibration

This is a must to do. Engine tuning requires a Lambda (Wideband) reading to properly adjust the
fuel delivery. Common Wideband Controllers are AEM X Series and 14Point7.
For AEM X Series, the Calibration values are 0.5V = 8.5 AFR ; 4.5V = 18 AFR. This can be selected
as AEM Linear (30-2310 & 30-4900) from the drop down menu of EGO Sensor.
For 14Point7, the Calibration values are 0V = 10 AFR; 5V = 20 AFR. This can be selected as
14Point7 from the drop down menu of EGO Sensor.
For any other wideband controllers not included from the drop down, use the Custom Linear
Wideband and put the corresponding AFR values and Voltage.
See Wideband Sensor and Controller from Documentation Page for more details.

Analog Sensor Filter

Most setups will not require changes to these values. Increasing the filter (sliding to the right)
will reduce the response time. Do not do these to MAP, AFR and TPS.
How to Read LEDs
LEDs are installed at the Main Board, Bluetooth module and VR Conditioner to show the status of each
component. These are important to diagnose if you are having problems.
VR Conditioner LEDs
When PnPduino is turned on by the car's battery or USB cable, both LEDs VR1 and VR2 should
light when JDM and MAX VR Conditioner is used. When the engine is running at idle, VR1 LED
looks like it is constantly lit, while VR2 LED should be blinking. How fast VR2’s LED blinks depend
on the engine’s rpm. If there is no light from both LEDs, make sure that the VR Conditioner board
is installed correctly.
The DSC VR Conditioner LEDs don't light up when turned on and if the engine is not running.
LEDs will only light up when it sees the teeth moving / engine is running.
Bluetooth LED
Bluetooth LED only has 1 LED. When the bluetooth is paired but NOT connected, its LED is
blinking fast. When there is bluetooth connection either to Tunerstudio or an Android APP, the
LED blinks slowly or constantly lit. If there is no LED, it means the bluetooth is off or the wiring is
wrong.
See PnPduino Connection via Laptop or Android Phone for more details.
Main Board LEDs
The PnPduino Main Board has LEDs to indicate the status of Inputs or Outputs. Outputs with
LEDs lit mean they are active. Output LEDs are:
