Write a Story in which a Diary plays an Important Role
"Look what I found!" Sira spoke ecstatically, holding up a bright neon
notebook. Its cover festooned with stickers and glitter. A head rose from the mounts of boxes scattered throughout the room ready to be emptied. "Show me!!” Sara extended her hand asking for the book. Taking hold of the book she flipped it open. ‘Belongs to Sara. Stay Out!!’ A warning scribbled on the front page, made Sara chuckle. Each page following that was headed by a date, followed by stories of the day. It was like a playback of Sara's halcyon childhood. It all came to a halt when a page opened. A small polaroid framed a young couple, both smiling with teary eyes. ‘19th August, 2000. He said He'd wait for me.’ The only content on the page. ________________ “I don’t want to go, Adam” A young girl in her early teenage spoke with teary eyes. A young boy similar in age sat in front of her on his knees. Extending his hand, he wiped the tears that fell from her eyes. “Your parents don’t have a choice Sara, nor do you.” Forcing a smile on his face, Adam tried to reason. “I can’t just leave… I can’t just pack everything up and move… I can’t forsake my life here… I… I can’t just leave you… you are my best friend” Sara kept on weeping. “Hey…hey…” Adam stood up, taking Sara in his embrace. Placing a gentle kiss on her head, attempting to console her he continued, “It's just a temporary move. These five years will go by a swift, we won’t even realise.” “But what if you find yourself a new best friend and forget about me,” Sara said, making Adam chuckle. “I won’t make a new best friend. Definitely, won’t forget you. Can’t say the same about you…” He stopped mid-way as Sara glared towards him through the tears. “Okay, you’ll also not forget about me.” “Promise?”, Sara needed reassurance, and Adam's nod did just that. “Promise, five years from today, this same spot, this same time,” He said, “I’ll wait for you” ________________ Getting back to reality, Sara stood up hurriedly. “Hey… Were you going?? I’m not going to unpack this myself.” Nina’s voice put a brake on her movement. Flashing a smile towards her, “It’s urgent… someone’s waiting for me” Sara rushed out the door. Within a few minutes, she stood where they had promised to reunite. Scanning the surroundings, she was disappointed not to find who she was looking for. Ahh. Taking a deep breath Sara sat down on the bench, disheartened. “It was a childish promise… he would have forgotten just like I did,” Sara spoke the thoughts out, loud and clear. “Told you... You would forget about me.” A deep male voice took Sara’s attention. A young man had occupied the empty seat across from Sara. “Hi, myself Adam…” He extended his hand for a shake. Which Sara stared at with disbelief. “Someone whose ‘Best Friend’ forgot about him” Adam added with a teasing tone, emphasizing the word ‘Best Friend’. A wide smile made its way onto Sara’s face. Ignoring the hand, which was still waiting, she engaged him in a tight hug, shocking Adam. “That is how Best Friends greet each other after years,” Sara spoke. Adam smiled and wrapped his arms around her deepening the hug.
