Ch 4: Synthetic fibres and plastics
I. Fibre: It is thin strand or filament like structure which is strong and flexible and used for making
cloth.
II. Fabrics: Fibres are woven to form fabric
Fibre → yarn→ fabric

Monomer: A unit repeatedly join to form long chain of polymer

Polymer: monomers are linked to form a long chain of polymers

Vinyl chloride polyvinyl chloride

V. POLYMERISATION: The process of linking together small monomers to form long chain of polymer is called
polymerisation n= number of monomer units n (monomer) → (polymer)n Example: n (ethene) → (polythene) n n
(Vinyl chloride) → (polyvinyl chloride) n
