Fall is here and that means

sunflowers are everywhere. Keep
your eyes peeled as a little gnome
may be hiding in a flower patch. For
fall this year I created a lot of fall-

How to Customize your Crochet
Sunflower Gnome
This is your sunflower gnome so
make him(or her) unique. Change
the colors of his outfit and hat. You
can change his skin tone too and
change the color of his hair. There
are also instructions below to make
braids for a girl gnome.

Saver colors Aran for fair skin, buff
for medium skin tones, cafe latte for
dark skin tones, and coffee for very

Once you make a complete circle,
fasten off and pull the final yarn end
to the back of the sunflower.
This row is shown in the photo
above using a lighter brown yarn so
you can see the row better. I
recommend using the same yarn
color as Row 1 when working this
round.
When your sunflower is complete,
weave in your ends. Get the flower
wet and lay it flat to dry. Gently pull
on the petals to shape them. When 8
the flower is fully dry it will hold its
shape better.
Sew the flowers to the hat after you
sew on the leaves.
Leaf (Make 5)
Note: The leaf is worked in all one
row. You will work on both sides of
the turning chain.
CH 7 with Medium Thyme Green
Yarn
Row 1 (first half): Work a (DC, TR) in
the third CH from the hook. Work a
2TR in the next CH. Work 2DC in the
next CH, HDC in the next CH, SC in
the next CH.
 Row 2: SC in the next 6 Sts. (6)

Change to Cafe Latte (Medium

Brown).

Row 3-9: SC in the next 6 Sts. (6)

Fasten off leaving a 10-inch tail to

sew the arm to the body.

Row 1 (second half): CH 2, turn your
work so you are working into the
opposite side of the starting chain.
SC in the next CH, HDC in the next
CH, Work 2DC in the next CH, Work
(TR, DC) in the next CH. CH2, SLST
to the same chain that you worked

Crochet Gnome Beard (Male
Gnome)
CH12 with Soft White yarn.
Row 1: SC in the 2nd CH from hook
and each CH across. Fasten off. (11)

Cut 21 eight-inch strands of yarn

for the beard. Group three strands
together and attach them to the 7
center single crochet like you would
add fringe to a scarf. (See Photo
Above)

Before stuffing your gnome, sew

your beard onto your gnome in a U
shape. Make sure to leave room for
the nose and keep the ends close to
the edge of the top of the body to
be able to hide them with the hat.
If you choose, braid your beard and
secure it with a small piece of yarn.
Give your beard a little trim to shape
and lightly mist it with some water,
style the beard and let it dry that
way to hold that shape.
If you wish, you can untwist the yarn
in the beard to have more hair-like
strands as seen in the photo above.

Braids (Make 2) (For Female
Gnome)
CH7 with Gold.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd CH from hook
and each CH across. Fasten off. (6)
Cut 24 10-inch strands of gold yarn
for the two braids. Attach two
strands of yarn to each Single
Crochet like you would attach fringe
to a scarf. Grab 3 groups of 8
strands and braid the hair together.
Use a piece of yarn to secure the
braids at the bottom. Sew the braids
onto the body of the gnome before
stuffing the gnome.

Crochet Sunflower Gnome
Assembly Instructions

You can use a yarn needle and yarn

to sew each piece together in the
order listed below or you can hot
glue the pieces together (this is
what I did) if they are not going to
be played with by kids.

1. Sew the feet to the front of the

gnome.
2. Stuff gnome body.
3. Sew the beard onto the gnome.
The beard will have the crocheted
row shaped like a U. Style the beard
and trim it. Sew the nose on top of
the beard. (If making a girl, sew the
nose in the center of the gnome and
sew the braids on each side of the
nose.)
4. Sew both gnome arms onto the
