ADL2601

ADL2601 was written on Friday 17 September 2021 in the afternoon. Please note that the
CLAW received the error messages from affected students who could not submit their
exams. They alerted the CLAW to the error immediately, hence the decision was taken on
Monday morning, 20 September 2021 to assist them. Students that submitted at first will not
have the second opportunity to have their scripts marked twice. The CLAW has a duty to
treat its students fairly as long as the students have produced evidence that the system was
faulty. Today it is them, tomorrow it is you. Are you saying even when you provide evidence,
we should ignore you? The CLAW has the obligation to hear both sides of the story and
decide accordingly so that all affected students are given an opportunity to submit based on
evidence produced to enable the CLAW to make such decisions. If they submitted at first
there is no opportunity to submit again. Many students were affected and it cannot be that
the CLAW ignores them. The CLAW also takes note of the fact that students cannot be
given one hour to upload their exams as they require reasonable prior notification.

The CLAW expects students to be ethical, professional, and truthful when reporting their
academic queries to the college. Students should refuse to behave and act in illegal ways
towards all their formal academic engagements with the university, as doing so will have
serious implications.
In terms of marking, let us leave everything in the capable hands of assessors who can
detect levels of similarities in case a student copied another student’s work or copied word
for word from the study material. Be that as it may, we neither assume that students will
copy from other sources nor they will not. So, leave this in the hands of assessors. The
CLAW is of the opinion that it is training lawyers of tomorrow who strive to be ethical at all
times in all their engagements with the university.

This is a management decision on this matter and we expect students to understand this
intervention. The CLAW considers this matter closed.
