Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

Proposal:
Premise:
Film Addicts covers a variety of topics in the world of film and television. The show includes a
single presenter and two guests and consists of the three talking about the latest films and TV
shows, information and updates in the industry and debating between one another about
various related topics to do with the industry.

Inspirations and target audience:

The two main sources of inspiration of which the show “Film Addicts” is based on are, Gene
Siskel and Roger Eberts movie review program called “At the Movies” and YouTube channel
“Screen Junkies”.
The primary idea is to to offer an audience of teenagers and young-adults a program in which
they can tune in to keep up-to-date on the latest movies, television shows and similar topics that
are based on visual media.
As we are aiming for a younger audience (17 - 24 age bracket) , we’ve made sure to cast a
presenter who isn’t as formal as what you would find in the aforementioned show but to have
someone more akin to the presenter you’ll find in “Screen Junkies”. This is important as to not
alienate the viewer with a presenter who may seem out of touch for a show that’s targeting
young adults and teensagers.

Channel:
Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

Our show is aimed towards channels that try to capture the “youth market” area, this mainly
consists of a viewership between the ages of 16 to 30 years old.
One such channel that is publicly funded is that of BBC Three for example, this is because they
air appropriate aged based documentaries, comedies and entertainment shows for the audience
we are trying to capture.
Another channel that can be considered is the commercial yet publicly owned E4 which is
similar to BBC Three in regards to content as they too aim for younger audiences and make use
of US imported shows and so on.

think of that clip?

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
Well BEN I agree with you, I think that it looks great, a lot of work has clearly gone into making
the film….
Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

As a Potterhead myself I’m really excited, but at the same time a bit nervous because I’m
unsure as to how it will turn out.
No one wants Harry Potter ruined by a spin off.

BEN HALL:
Of course BOBBIE I had forgotten you were such a fan of Harry Potter! Which house do you
consider yourself in again?.... Was it Ravenclaw?

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
No BEN I am actually a Hufflepuff….

*BEN looks at camera, tilts head and pulls an amused face laughing slightly*

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
AND PROUD!

*Everyone laughs*

BEN HALL:
What about you JULIAN, what do you think of the clip, Do you think the film will be good?

JULIAN TSCHAIKOWSKI:
Well I think that the clip looked good. However I heard that they were splitting the film up, Is that
definitely confirmed?

BEN HALL:
Yes! People involved with the production of the filmHave officially announced that that film will
be split into FIVE films. What do you guys make of that?

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
I love it BEN, every Potter fan wants more content about the world that JK created, and this

BEN HALL:
Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

Well BOBBIE I have to agree that Potter fans everywhere will be overjoyed to hear this news!
JULIAN, what are your opinions?

JULIAN TSCHAIKOWSKI:
Well BEN personally I think it’s a really bad idea…. A spin off film is a spin off film. NOT spin off
films.

BEN HALL:
An interesting point, why do you think it Has been done JULIAN?

JULIAN TSCHAIKOWSKI:
Personally I think Warner Bros are trying to make a more money off of us all by making another
franchise that can relate to Harry Potter…. but at the same time will bring out a lot of new
merchandise and ticket sales.

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
That may be true JULIAN but equally the Potter fans will love it regardless of money.

BEN HALL:
Agreed!.... the films will be awesome and with the cast line up, they will Definitely be worth the
watch.

JULIAN TSCHAIKOWSKI:
Oh absolutely I am not going to let anything stop me going and seeing those films.

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
Yes, agreed, the films themselves will be great.

BEN HALL:
Moving on…. We asked you on Twitter for questions and one of the most mentioned topics was
Marvel or DC with #BeBlunt?

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
Now that is a tricky question

BEN HALL:
Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

Couldn’t agree with you more BOBBIE…. What do we reckon? Personally I prefer Marvel
because of Iron man

BOBBIE THOMPSON:
Well I think that DC is better…. because the Dark Knight trilogy was one of the best trilogies of
all time.

BEN HALL:
Well that means JULIAN has the deciding vote….

*ADD IN TENSE NOISE*

JULIAN TSCHAIKOWSKI:
I agree that Marvel is better…. but because of Cap not Iron man!

*Laughter*

BEN HALL:
Well there you have it guys film addicts are bigger fans of Marvel than DC….
Thank you BOBBIE and JULIAN for joining us today and thank you to everyone watching…

Research:
Marvel Cinematic Universe vs DC:
Who owns them:
· Marvel is owned by Disney, while their X-Men are owned by 20th Century Fox
· DC is owned by Warner Bros, but they have the rights to all their characters

Their shared universes

· Marvel created theirs in 2008 with Iron man, and know they have 14 films released
· DC started in 2013 with only 3 films – it feels rushed like they are trying to catch up to
Marvel

· Marvel had their hero standalone films before the Avengers – while DC have Justice
League before standalone films.

comic line.

● Harry Potter films distributed by Warner Bros, Worldwide the 8 films made over $7 billion
and with a incredibly loyal fan base. the final film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
part 2 has 96% on rotten tomatoes
● On 17th of November the highly anticipated sequel "fantastic beasts and where to find
them" will be released.

It's 1926 and The story is about a young wizard named Newt salamander (played by Eddie
Redmayne) who tries to search and rescue magic creatures while dealing with rising tensions in
the Magic community
Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

● The spin off will be the first instalment of a series of 5 films,

With the first and second already with set dates in 2018 and 2020
● There is speculation that since it's one book by J.K.Rowling, it's being too spread as
there will 5 films covering the book. (She is working with the screenwriter as we speak)
For the fans who support this, it's excellent news and we will see a another enormous saga
planned out involving events from the wizarding war. More Harry Potter universe, Yay!

Yet some are doubtful as it may be seen as a case as a project spread out for maximum profit.
Much like Peter Jackson who was criticised for expanding Tolkien's short prequel into 3 feature
films. There's a debate on whether, Hollywood would never let things end, wanting to keep the
cash flow going. And with Rowling already coming under criticism for using African and native
American society's could the series turn sour or live up to its potential. Keeping in mind that no
matter what, due to its loyal fan base, it will be a success. DEBATE TIME!

Cine1049 Introduction To TV Studio Production
Film Addicts - Live TV Production

In this first group meeting we decided that the most important thing that we would do
first would be to come up with a list of potential ideas that we could do for our television
show.
The ideas that we came up with consisted of:

Sport,
Celeb Gossip,
Films/TV/Oscar Hype
Music
Student Life
How things have changed in a year
A mock of the week style show.

We decided that these ideas were good ideas because they were very different from
each other and yet all of them possessed qualities that could be used into making a
popular television show.

We came to the conclusion that the idea that we all liked the most and wanted to make
into a television show was a talk show about Film and Oscar hype. We all liked this idea
because everyone in the group is passionate about Film and we thought that we could
write a script that that would keep the audience interested and not be too long or too
short.

We also realised that by making this show we could also include some “Celeb Gossip”
due to it being based around Film and Oscar Hype.
Also we came up with the idea of a soundtrack of the week being a part of the show.
This could educate the audience to the soundtracks within the show that they might not
of been listening too with all of the action happening in the film.
This will also give credit to the composer of the soundtrack and by it being in the show
we are hoping that it will entertain our audience.

We then went onto YouTube and looked through several popular Film Review shows
that were similar but were on the Internet and not on the television for inspiration. The
channel that we found of YouTube was called “Screen Junkies”. The show had several
codes and conventions that we thought that we could incorporate into our show, the
main one that we liked was the use of just ONE main presenter.

We decided that, as the set would be a limited size and using three cameras, we would
only use one main presenter and then have the presenter bring in two guests that would
have opposing views on the films. Having less people on the set will give the people on

the set more space to move about and could also allow for a smaller amount of set to
be made which could make life easier for the Floor Manager.

We then set to working out who we could get to be the presenter for our show. Myself
(Conor) and Mark know someone who does Drama at Greenwich so we will shortly be
asking her if she would be, or if she knows of anyone who, would be interested in being
a presenter in our show.
Jesse also said that he knows of some people who might be interested so he also will
be asking around to try and find a presenter.

Another topic that we debated was the set design of the show. We all agreed that a nice
backdrop for the show we be to have lots of film posters and merchandise that is easily
recognized by the people who would be viewing it. We agreed that the set would have
to fit into the allocated space that we were given because in a professional workspace
you could not have more space then the studio provided. We also realised that the
design of the set can’t have any blocks that we did not plan because all of the cameras
must be able to get the necessary shots at any point during the production of the show.
We will have chairs for the Presenter and Guests but not much else on the set because
we do not want to have to much stuff to have to move around and potentially block
shots.

We then talked about recent popular films that have recently been released/ are just
about to be released such as: Girl on the Train, Dr Strange, Fantastic Beasts and
Where to Find Them and up comers like Rouge One. However we decided that the
logical thing to do would be to wait a bit to work out exactly what films would be coming
out just in case there is a film that would be more relevant for us to talk about.

We decided that the choice of the film(s) that we would talk about are highly important
because the audience will have to relate to the topics that are discussed on the show
and if the topics are new there is a higher chance of “Hype” from audience watching the
show.

After deciding all of this we shared out a couple of things for people to have a think
about before the next seminar that day. Another key thing that happened was that
Myself and Tom swapped secondary/ pre production roles so I am now writing the script
and he is now doing Research.

Jesse,
Tom,
Mark,
Sarah

During this meeting we quickly decided that Civil War and overdone superheroes would
be a good topic to discuss within our film television show. We also decided that another
good film to do would be Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them because there is a
lot of Harry Potter hype around at the moment because of the speculation of how good
the spin off film will be.
We also discussed the idea of our show having social media like twitter mentioned
during the show to make it seem like a more genuine show that tries to advertise itself
more.
Finally we decided on our name being “Film Addicts”

During this meeting we wrote down all of our roles for each other so we knew who we
would be contacting for different jobs within the production of the show. We also found
the deadline for the coursework and the show.
Jesse contacted a few potential actors for us to have on out show who looked like they
might fit the role, he is waiting to hear back from them.
We all agreed that if we cannot find all actors needed then we would use people from
other groups as long as they fit the role for our show.

Agreed that we would all get on with work and try to get it done for Monday or at least
have a basic structural idea of what we wanted.

Same date but Seminar

During this Seminar we all discusses deadlines for the show and how everyone was
getting on.
Planned to get a bit of pre production done by the following week.
Juliana needed to be sent group roles.
We then decided that Civil War although being a good idea was quite a long idea so
Marvel VS DC would be easier to talk about quickly. Decided to go with Marvel VS DC
