WEEKLY JOURNAL

WEEK WEEK 2

DATE 6/05/2024 – 10/05/2024

TITLE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

1. FOCUSED ISSUE

This week's issue focuses on managing pupils' behaviour in the classroom, a critical aspect
of creating a conducive learning environment. Effective behaviour management strategies
are essential for promoting a positive classroom atmosphere and maximizing students'
engagement and academic achievement.

2. ANALYSIS OF THE FOCUSED ISSUE

Upon reflection, I recognize that managing pupils' behaviour is a multifaceted challenge that
requires a proactive and holistic approach. This week, I evaluated my current behaviour
management practices and reflected on their effectiveness in promoting positive behaviour
and minimizing disruptions in the classroom.

3. LITERATURE REVIEWS

Research suggests that implementing proactive behaviour management strategies, such as

establishing clear expectations, providing positive reinforcement, and fostering a supportive
classroom community, can significantly improve students' behaviour and academic
performance (Brophy, 2006; Marzano & Marzano, 2003). Furthermore, building positive
relationships with students and addressing underlying factors contributing to challenging
behaviour are crucial components of effective behaviour management (Sprick et al., 2012).

4. SUGGESTION

To enhance behaviour management in the classroom, I propose implementing a

comprehensive approach that combines proactive strategies with targeted interventions for
addressing challenging behaviour. This involves establishing clear behaviour expectations,
implementing consistent consequences for both positive and negative behaviour, and
providing additional support for students who require it.

5. TIME FRAME FOR SOLUTION

A week.
6. FOLLOW UP ACTIONS

The follow-up actions entail a comprehensive approach to enhancing behaviour

management practices in the classroom. This includes a thorough review and analysis of
current strategies to pinpoint areas for improvement. Subsequently, clear behaviour
expectations have been established and effectively communicated to students, fostering a
shared understanding of classroom norms. Consistent consequences have been
implemented for both positive and negative behaviour, ensuring fairness and accountability
among students.

7. ACTIONS’ TAKEN DATE

7/05/2024

8. EFFECTIVENESS OF THE ACTIONS

Due to the short time of meeting with the pupils, they are still not familiar with me which
resulting in them only met some of the behaviour expectations that have been set. In
addition, certain pupils need to be observed closely and be firmer with as they tend to listen
to the instructions only for a few moments before repeating their previously less expected
behaviour.

9. CONCLUSION

Managing pupils' behaviour is a critical aspect of creating a positive and productive learning
environment. By implementing proactive behaviour management strategies and providing
targeted interventions for challenging behaviour, educators can promote a culture of respect,
responsibility, and academic excellence in the classroom.
