WEEK WEEK 4

TITLE INCORPORATING HOTS IN THE LESSON

1. FOCUSED ISSUE
This week, the ability to use HOTS in the lesson is the main concern. Based
on my observations and the mentor's feedback, the lesson I led did not or just
sometimes include the HOTS element.

2. ANALYSIS OF THE FOCUSED ISSUE


Based on the comments from my mentor teacher, the intended activities were
carried out with interesting activities. However, the lesson was missing a key
component of HOTS because I did not pose questions that would have
prompted them to think critically.

3. LITERATURE REVIEWS
Angelo and Cross (1995) argue that critical thinking skills are associated with
higher level skills such as analysis, synthesis, identifying and solving
problems, making inferences or conclusions, and evaluating things
(Nachiappan et.al, 2018).

4. SUGGESTION
The main piece of recommendation is to become acquainted with Bloom's
taxonomy and the HOTS features so that educators are adequately prepared.
This will assist educators in creating tasks and inquiries that satisfy HOTS
goals while considering pupils' capacities.

I have reviewed some material to increase my understanding of Taxonomy
Bloom and the HOTS aspect. This helps me come up with questions that
challenge students' critical thinking abilities. I've incorporated HOTS questions
into their discussions, like open-ended inquiries that require students to
explain their thinking and offer an opinion.

8. EFFECTIVENESS OF THE ACTIONS


After reviewing Bloom’s Taxonomy and HOTS, I gained new approach in
fusing critical thinking into my lesson. For example, asking the students about
their prior knowledge and opinions on things which are not too difficult for their
standards. This made them think independently and prompted them to
express their thoughts. However, there are still some students that are too
quiet or shy to talk in front of others and I have to personally communicate
with them to encourage them to talk.

9. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, in order to foster critical and creative thinking in their students,
educators must be aware of the HOTS factor.
