Narrative Report: Altermidya Seminar-Workshop

Date: October 13-16, 2023

Location: La Union

RETROSPECT:

With the theme, “Combatting Disinformation through Quality Community

Journalism,” the Altermidya network implemented a workshop on community
journalism on October 13-16, 2023 in La Union.

The Salettinian Publication Editor-in-chief, Jeanne Chrissy Manaligod along with

the Publication Director, Mr. Arjay Jonathan Sibalon represented the university in the
said event.

On day zero, the two met the other delegates along with the organizers, who were
also the employees of altermidya. Ground rules were presented as well as the itinerary for
the rest of the workshop.

On day one, the speakers tackled Community Journalism and Ethical Reporting,
reminding the participants of their role in community journalism, what it is, and how to
do it.

On day two, the speakers taught the participants the importance of Short Form
news in the current state of media. They also gave techniques in grabbing the attention of
social media users through good videography and scriptwriting. In the afternoon, the
delegates and the organizers visited a community and created short-form videos that
tackled zoning and the current lifestyle of the fishermen in the area.

The last day marked the feedback and the ways forward of the workshop.

PROSPECT:

Altermidya had shared a valuable lesson to journalism that the representatives

could echo in the school publication.

The evaluation results are as follows:
