LOAD TEST (METHODOLOGY) PROCEDURE FOR POWER

GENERATING SETS USING RESISTIVE LOAD BANK FOR GRAND
HYATT RESIDENCES PROJECT
SAFETY: Before starting the machine, ensure that electrical power cables are secured and
tightened on all terminations, all moving parts on the fan belt area are guarded and working
area is clean and free from all debris and spillage.

In the event that abnormal vibration, oil or water leak or unusual noise are
observed when the engine is operating, load test should immediately be stopped and
corrections carried out before the other load test increments are continued.

MECHANICS: To be load tested are the 2 x 1250kVa Cummins power generating sets.
Testing proper will be done on the details below;
Load increments for EACH generator set are as follows:

Load Increment Duration

30% 30 minutes
50% 30 minutes
75% 30 minutes
100% 30 minutes

GENERAL PROCEDURE:

1. Start-up the generator set. Check for any form of leak in water and oil
connections.

2. Operate the engine for 5 minutes at no load condition. Record all readings.

3. After 5 minutes has timed out, apply load to the engine about 30% of its rated
capacity by turning the knobs on the resistive load bank. Run the engine for 30
minutes. Record all readings as indicated on the load test report form.

4. After 2 hours has timed out, apply load to the engine about 50% of its rated
capacity by turning the knobs on the resistive load bank. Run the engine for 30
minutes. Record all readings as indicated on the load test report form.

5. After 2 hours has timed out, apply load to the engine about 75% of its rated
capacity by turning the knobs on the resistive load bank. Run the engine for 30
minutes. Record all readings as indicated on the load test report form.

6. After 2 hours has timed out, apply load to the engine about 100% of its rated
capacity by turning the knobs on the resistive load bank. Run the engine for 30
minutes. Record all readings as indicated on the load test report form.

7. After the full load (100%) test had been completed, remove the resistive load on
the generator set gradually until a no-load condition had been achieved. Allow the
engine to operate for about 3-5 minutes (no load) before shutting the engine off.

8. Re-check all engine and electrical parts for abnormal leaks. Perform necessary
corrections as required.

9. Disconnect all power and testing cables and re-check all mechanical and
electrical connections. Perform necessary corrections as required.

Note: After the resistive load bank test has been performed, the power
generating set has operated with load for at least two (2) hours.

LOAD TRANSFERING SIMULATION TEST PROCEEDURE FOR POWER

GENERATING SET AND AUTOMATIC TRANSFER SWITCH FOR GRAND HYATT
RESIDENCES PROJECT

SAFETY: Before starting the machine, ensure that electrical power cables are secured and tightened on
all terminations, all moving parts on the fan belt area are guarded and working area is clean and free
from all debris and spillage.

In the event that abnormal vibration, oil or water leak or unusual noise are observed when the
engine is operating, test should immediately be stopped and corrections carried out before the test are
continued.

MECHANICS: To be tested are the transferring operation of 2 x 1250 kVa (1000kW) Cummins Diesel
power generating set. Testing proper will be done on the details below;

GENERAL PROCEDURE:

Automatic Operation Procedure

1. Check level of Engine Oil, Coolant, and Diesel.
2. Check if the generator set is online.
3. Start up the generator set by manual operation at no load for at least 5 minutes.
4. Check running parameters e.g. voltage, frequency and RPM.
5. Check the generator set for any fluid leaks.
6. Turn off the generator set.
7. Set the genset controller to “Auto” mode.
8. Set the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) control panel to “Auto” mode.
9. Set the normal power breaker to “Off” position. ATS should automatically start the
generator and supply power to load side.
10. After loading, set the normal power breaker to “On” position. ATS should
automatically stop the generator.

Manual Operation Procedure

1. Check if the genset is online.
2. Set the genset controller to “Auto” position.
3. Set the ATS controller to “Manual” position.
4. Start the generator set.
5. Manually operate the transfer switch from normal power to emergency power.
6. Return power to normal power by transferring manually the switch.
7. After transferring the power, turn off the generator set.
