CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

In the dynamic and fast-paced business of hospitality, on-the-job training (OJT), is

essential for developing talent, honing skills, and promoting excellence. OJT is essential to
the dynamic environment of a hotel since it shapes the experiences of both workers and
visitors. This introduction to our OJT experiences provides an overview of the broad
relevance and complexity of the training or working in hotel industry, with an emphasis on its
use in hotel operations.
OJT in the hospitality industry is not easy as it fundamentally represents a
comprehensive approach to learning that skillfully combines academic knowledge with real-
world experience, going beyond simple teaching. OJT is essential to developing a culture of
service excellence in the special setting of a hotel, where every encounter has the opportunity
to leave a lasting impression. On-the-job training offers an immersive platform for
individuals to be skilled and embrace the hospitality ethos, whether it is refining the art of
guest engagement, or navigating the intricacies of room management.
Experience learning is more dynamic than traditional techniques of training,
especially in the fast-paced hotel setting where days are never the same. It equips students
with the skills necessary to confidently and gracefully negotiate the intricacies of the
hospitality industry by practical experiences and immediate feedback. On-the-job training
(OJT) not only transmits technical skill but also a strong feeling of resilience and flexibility,
traits that are invaluable in an industry that is always evolving.
When aiming for perfection, the process is just as significant as the final goal. In a
hotel setting, on-the-job training (OJT) acts as a factor to promote an innovative and
continuous improvement culture. Through the encouragement of staff members to take on
tasks and gain knowledge from their encounters, On-the-Job Training (OJT) fosters an
innovative and creative mindset that enters all aspects of hotel operations. Through the
development of creative service solutions, streamlining processes, or anticipating demands
before they exist, on-the-job training (OJT) enables students to push the envelope and
redefine what is considered to be the standard of excellence in the hospitality sector.
In conclusion, it is impossible to exaggerate the value of on-the-job training in the
field of hotel operations. OJT is a transforming force that goes beyond simple instruction, it is
a reason for professional and personal growth, encouraging excellence and creativity
everywhere it goes. Let us embrace the many chances that this destination of discovery into
the dynamics of on-the-job training (OJT) in the hotel industry affords to develop talent, hone
skills, and mold the hospitality landscape for future generations.
OBJECTIVES

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) should be able to:

1. Developing practical skills of trainees and gain hands-on experience in various hotel
operations, especially in housekeeping.
2. Enhancing communication skills and customer service techniques to effectively
interact with guests, handle inquiries, and resolve issues professionally.
3. Learning to work effectively as part of a team, coordinating with colleagues from
different departments to ensure seamless guest experiences.
4. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, service quality, and professionalism to
uphold the hotel’s reputation and meet guest expectations.
5. Developing skills in managing tasks efficiently, prioritizing responsibilities, and
handling multiple duties simultaneously to meet deadlines and maintain service
standards.
6. Gradually gaining confidence in performing tasks independently while receiving
constructive feedback and guidance from supervisors and mentors.

DESCRIPTION OF THE OJT AGENCY

In 1974, the Philippine government encouraged the private sector to build hotels in
anticipation of the 1976 International Monetary Fund-World Bank (IMF-WB) annual meeting
to be hosted in the county. The government made funds available to private firms willing to
build hotels at low interest rates. The Marsteel Corporation, an integrated steel manufacturing
firm entered into a joint venture agreement with All Nippon Airways Enterprise, Co. Ltd.
(ANAE) to convert the Maranaw Hotels and Resort Corporation (MHRC) into a joint venture
corporation for the purpose of building a hotel at a 26,000 square meters (280,000 sq ft) site
at the Harrison Park in Malate, Manila. In 1975, MHRC entered in a franchise agreement
with the Sheraton Hotel and Inns Worldwide to allow the usage of the Sheraton brand for its
hotel.
The Century Park Hotel partially opened in September 1976 as the Century Park
Sheraton Manila. Century Park Sheraton, along with 14 other deluxe hotels in Metro Manila
was opened in time for the IMF-WB meeting.
The hotel began with a coffee shop and about 300 rooms in its first month of
operation. Gradually, other facilities of the hotel was made available to the public. By the
time, the hotel is already in full operation, it already has 450 available rooms, eight food and
beverage outlets, a shopping arcade, a medical clinic, a dental clinic, a barber shop, and a
beauty shop. In 1980, a new wing called Park Tower Suites was opened. The wing contained
60 suites, each with a small kitchen. However the hotel's operation was adversely affected by
the 1981 Harrison Plaza fire. Sipalay Trading Corporation of Lucio Tan became a major
stockholder of the hotel on April 19, 1985.
For its 25 years, the Century Park Hotel has consistently presented to ita guests and
regular visitors the inherent welcome luxury that is truly, distinctively Filipino a fitting and
unrestrained hospitality gesture offered with utmost care and sincerity. With a guarantee of
world class professional standards in customer service, local and foreign tourists who always
keep coming back- remember the cozy ambiance emulating the luxury and comfort of one's
home in the deluxe Century Park Hotel in Manila. It's dedicated, efficient, and hard- working
officers and staff give guests a firsthand experience to feel the throb of contaminating
commitment strongly emanating from the hearts of the members of the Century Park Hotel
Family. Now the Century Park Hotel is over 45 years in the industry under Maranaw Hotels
and Resort Corp. also known as the "LT Group". But the hotel is indeed designated to be the
imminent showcase of the Filipino's rich culture and innate hospitality.
CHAPTER II
DESCRIPTION OF SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES PERFORMED

One of the most exciting aspects of being a student is perhaps the internship.
You will be better able to anticipate the real work environment because this is where all of your academic knowl
edge and abilities will be put to use. During an internship or on-the-
job training, we, the "interns," should gain new skills and knowledge in a brief amount of time.

On January 10,2024, twenty-

five (25) students from St. Mark Arts and Training Institute Inc. (SMARTII) who are studying tourism leading t
o HRM and tourism leading to maritime-steward were placed in an OJT at the Century Park Hotel, one of Manil
a's most well-known hotels. The supervisor of on-the-
job trainees, Mr. Antonelle Albano, made sure they had an amazing experience they won't soon forget.

We learned a lot and experienced a lot during our training at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
One of the things we learnt was how to interact with consumers in an appropriate manner.
The saying that "customers are always right" should guide your interactions with them; be patient and courteous.
They are the ones that will enable the hotel to continue operating.

When we are first deployed for our On-the-Job Training (OJT), we truly have no idea what to expect.
We couldn't help but feel anxious and excited because it's an important requirement for us to graduate.
We are assured in our abilities since we already have knowledge and experiences that will help in both gaining o
f new skills and knowledge.

The fact that we learned many new things during our OJT made us very thankful.
It is appropriate for us to say that there are many standards you have to meet.
Our knowledge of the various kinds of rooms on each floor was enhanced by the training.
Because the amenities are organised differently, it can be confusing when I'm with someone from the other floor
, but eventually everything made sense.
Every room attendant seemed to have their own work style and methods for finishing tasks quickly.

Since each floor has a different set of rooms with varying prices (Superior, Deluxe, Junior Superior, Superior D
ouble, Park Tower Suite, Superior Twin, Deluxe Double, and Executive rooms), room attendants had their own
personal preferences for how to arrange the amenities, tools, and equipment. The hotel's 19 floor
and 478 rooms are what we found out.
It was entertaining and delightful that we were allocated to various departments inside the hotel.

The most significant things we learned were how to effectively manage our time, behave politely among staff an
d visitors, and multitask.
We remembered that in order to do all of the responsibilities assigned to us right away in this profession, we mu
st be adaptable. The industry we are about to enter allows us to quickly utilise the knowledge we have obtained.
We may claim that having previously experienced life's realities has greatly challenged us but also provided us
with amazing experiences and a wide range of knowledge.

The way we are able to work as a team has also grown stronger.
We must rely on one another and work together to maintain the property excellent because we are from the same
hometown. For everyone of us, spending time apart from our parents is a novel experience.
Manila is a foreign place. As a result, learning new things together actually requires teamwork.
Due to pressure and having a lot on our minds, doing this duty caused us to forget other things.
Creating a list on time increases the productivity of our work.Another ability we developed was professionalism
. Whatever is effective is put in front of us, and we have to give it our all.
We will always treasure so many things and memories.
First and foremost is "Being industrious is the key to a successful OJT" .
It's not necessary to be extremely intelligent; having talents is what matters most.
after that, "Having a great confidence will give you a strength to have a great communication skill to your guest
s and other staff of the company" .
Strong communication skills are absolutely essential, particularly in my line of work because we are the ones th
at greet and accommodate visitors to our hotels.

For whatever reason, we continue to advance despite the fact that we lack practical experience in many areas, an
d we still have obstacles in life to overcome. First, we didn't say anything.
Trying to see how to get along with staff members.
Sometimes we find it hard to communicate our thoughts and feelings to others because we don't know how to pu
t it in a way that will make sense to the person listening to us.
However, we are so scared that we end up saying nothing at all.
We have gained knowledge of the ideals that will enable us to create a better future for ourselves since we began
the on-the-job training, often known as an internship.

In summary, we never stop pushing ourselves to learn new things every day.
It matters more what we learn than what we believe. gaining knowledge at each of the hotel's stations.
In light of their expectations of us,

In summary, we never stop pushing ourselves to learn new things every day.
It matters more what we learn than what we believe. gaining knowledge at each of the hotel's stations.
In light of their expectations of us, this knowledge aids in our continued personal growth.
This will give us some courage to be ourselves in front of you.
We will use all of the knowledge, abilities, and lessons we gained from this OJT experience in the actual industr
y. Through on-the-job training, our housekeeping skills were significantly enhanced.
Students gain outstanding skills from this internship that will make them better workers.
