LESSON 2: DIFFERENT TERMINOLOGIES USED IN FISH CULTURE

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

1. Understand the different terminologies used in fish culture.


2. Define the terminologies in fish culture.
3. Participate actively in class.

ICE BREAKER: “FIND MY PARTNER”

Direction: Your class will be divided into two groups. Each group will receive an envelope, those
envelope contains the different terminologies used in fish culture. You have to find their meaning
and once you did you need to paste those words beside their meaning.

LESSON: READY SET STUDY

11. Habitat – is the place where plants and animals are commonly found.

12. Herbivorous – are the type of fish that only eats vegetables.

13. Lab-lab – is like a moss, they grow at fond floor and sometimes you can see them in rocks.

14. Milt – just like flowers and humans, fish has also reproductive organ and it’s called milt.
15. Omnivorous – are the type of fish that eats both plants and animals.

16. Oviparous – are the type of fish that lays an egg to produce an offspring. ( Ex. Tilapia )

17. Ovoviviparous – is the opposite of oviparous, because unlike the oviparous that lays an egg,
ovoviviparous directly give birth to young fish rather than to lay an egg.

18. pH – is the scale for measuring the degree of acidity.

19. Photosynthesis – is a process by which plants manufacture their food with the aid of sunlight.

20. Plankton – is the term used to describe organism that float on water, they can’t swim against
water current.

21. Predators – are the type of fish that hunts and kill other fishes for food.

22. Prolific – is the term used for a fish producing a large number of fishes.

23. Sabalo – is the breeder of bangus.

24. Salinity – is the degree of freshness and saltiness of water.

25. Scavenger – is the type of fish that feeds on dead or dying fish.

26. Spat – is the larvae of oyster that floats on water

27. Standing crop – is the total number of fish stocked at a given area at a given time.

28. Temperature – is the degree of coldness and hotness of water.

29. Tide – is the rise and fall of seawater.

30. Viviparous – is the type of fish that give birth to young fish, however viviparous fish is fully
advanced at birth that’s why they have a great chance of surviving.
