CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF COMMUNITY
About village 2
About selection of village 2
On 28 April 2018 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India had
achieved its goal, ahead of schedule, of providing electricity to every village in India. This is one
of the greatest achievements in the history of energy.
1
Since 2000 around half a billion people have gained access to electricity in India, with
political effort over the last five years significantly accelerating progress. In addition, the country
was already on track to achieving universal household electricity access by the early 2020s, yet
Prime Minister Modi has now moved up this target to the end of 2018. This will improve the lives
of over 230 million people.
While this next “last mile” challenge will be not be easy to meet, particularly in a country
as large and geographically diverse as India, the social and economic benefits are significant.
For a start, electric lighting makes the use of candles, kerosene and other polluting fuels
for lighting redundant, not only saving money (and providing more light) but also seriously
improving health. Electricity can increase productive hours in a household leading to positive
outcomes on education and economic well being. It can also spur innovation and lead to
entrepreneurial micro businesses ventures, and in time lead to greater agricultural yields. Benefits
also flow to the likes of schools, banking and medical services.
India is clearly a success story, and was highlighted as a bright spot for energy access
in IEA’s Energy Access Outlook 2017. But in other regions of the world, huge challenges remain,
with over 670 million people across the world projected to be without electricity access in 2030
on the basis of current progress.
VILLAGE
India is the third largest producer of electricity in the world. The national electric grid in
India has an installed capacity of 403.759 GW as of 30 June 2022. Renewable power plants,
which also include large hydroelectric plants, constitute 39.2% of total installed capacity.
During the fiscal year (FY) 2019-2020, the gross electricity generated by utilities in India
was 1,383.5 TWH and the total electricity generation (utilities and non utilities) in the country
was 1,598 TWH. The gross electricity consumption in FY2019 was 1,208 kwh per capita. Electric
energy consumption in agriculture was recorded as being the highest(17.89%) worldwide. The
per capita electricity consumption is low compared to most other countries despite India having
electricity tariff.
India has a surplus power generation capacity but lacks adequate fuel supply,
transmission and distribution infrastructure. The average plant load factor of the thermal power
plants is below 60% against the norm of 85%. India’s electricity sector is dominated by fossil
fuels, in particular coal, which produced about three-quarters of the country’s electricity. The
government is making efforts to increase investment in renewable energy. The government is
making efforts to increase investment in renewable energy.
2
The government’s National Electricity plan of 2018 states that the country does not need
more non-renewable power plants in the utility sector until 2027, with the commissioning of
50,025 MW coal based power plants under construction and addition of 275,000 MW total
renewable power capacity after the retirement of nearly 48,000 MW old coal-fired plants. It is
expected that non-fossil fuels generation contribution is likely to be around 44.7% of the total
gross electricity generation by 2029-30.
SELECTION OF VILLAGE
We are selected kanumalla village in Singaraya Konda rural mandal most of the
progressive elements born from kanumalla. People are most progressive and democrative way
bhehaviour. Cultivation and buffaloes feeding is major profession of kanumalla people.
Mr.SREENIVASULU, post master general of andhra circle, Dasari Prasada rao director of nims
hospitals are belongs to kanumalla village. Bezawada sundara ramaiah, Radha krishnaiah, doctor
Pullaiah, Tatiparthy Chakra reddy etc,. Are the prominent veterens of kanumalla village.

RURAL EXTENSION
The rural development is must for the development of country. There are many reasons
that I have notice during survey.
• Poor
• Un-Employment
• Illiteracy
• Water ways out problem
• Lack of Vehicle
• Less electricity
For solving the rural problem it is very necessary that we have to motivate them. People to be
educated the infrastructure of the village should be improve. Facility of the road, electricity. .

Here is the some data we all are collected about electricity in village. Here we observed
that the meter type are almost same for the village and also no.of hours is also same there is a
difference between the energy conumed per day in village.
AWARENESS ABOUT ELECTRICITY
We are also conduct some awareness programs about electricity from villagers. We are
guide the villagers and also probably achieve huge cuts in our organizations energy consumption.
Everyone knows the saving energy is a good thing, but most people will only be motivated when
you can demonstrate just how much energy they are wasting, and just how much potential there
is for them to improve. Esentially we need to raise the energy awareness.
For a general defination, we think it would be reasonable to say that energy awareness is about
understanding :
• How much energy we use
6
• What we actually use it for;
• Where the energy comnes from;
• What we can do to reduce our energy consumption and its undesirable effects.
Energy awareness is about understanding that :
• All day we are using energy in our home;
• Some things we do use a lot more energy than others;
• Simple changes in our habits can lead to big reductions in our home’s energy
consumption; and
• Reducing our home’s energy consumption is important.
Also we all are get some awareness about electricity like how much quantity of energy we
can used per a day, how to use and save electricity, precautions on elecricity and precautions on
electricity during rainy season we all choose these awarness topics on electricity .
The community service project is very helpful us to communicate villagers and we get some
knowledge about the people and society. Community Service Project is an experiential learning
startegy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction, participation, learn
personal and academic development. The community will be benefited with the focused
contribution of the students for the village/local development.
Some points we are discussed about how to use and how to save electricity:
• Turn off unnecessary lights
• Use natural light
7
• Use task lighting
• Take shorter showers
• Turn water off when shaving, washing hands, brushing teeth
• Unplug unused electronics
• Not home turn off the fans, lights and other devices
• Reduce heat in the kitchen
• Be efficient with refrigeration
• Dry full loads of laundry
Before changing a lightbulb, switch off the light or unplug the lamp:
One wrong move on the stepladder while you’re unscrewing a light bulb could lead to an
accident. Why take such a needless resk. Switch the light off before replacing the burnt-out bulb,
and make sure no one touches the switch while you’re working.
8
Fig: 14 Before changing a blub, switch off the light or unplug the lamp
If the light fixtures is not connected to a switch, unplug it before replacing the bulb. Remember
to never handle an electrical device or light bulb with wet hands. Water + Electricity = Danger!
Make sure to locate electrical wires before drilling a hole in the wall:
Fig:15 Make sure to locate wires before drilling a hole in the wall
Use a stud and electricity detector. If it detects power being the wall, drill only through the
drywall and check to make sure there are no wires before drilling any further. If you damage an
electric wire, you could cause an accident or a fire. If you have any doubts, don’t do the job.
9
Fig: 16 Multi-outlets get the right power bars
Use a power bar with a built-in circuit breaker that cuts off the power in case of overload.
Plug your various devices into different outlets. Unplug any devices you’re not using. In addition,
condiser protecting your devices from overvoltage, which may be caused by lighting or other
factors. Many power bars with a built-in circuit breaker are also equipped with a surge protector.
Here are the some of the power bars with a built in to consume a lot of electricity could
lead to overheating. Here are some circuit breaker are also equipped with a surge protector.
If the water splashes and goes into the appliance, it could give you an electric shock.
Remember: Water + Electricity = Danger!
