Setting

When identifying the setting you need to consider the where, the when, and the what. Take note of
where the scene is taking place such as on a ship out at sea, on a train in a metropolis, or in a park.
This must then be considered in a broader context. What time of day, and what is the environment
like. Is it a hostile and dangerous thunderstorm at night, or a bright sunny morning. This will help
guide you to understanding the emotional context.

Try to be as detailed as you can so that you can try to identify with the character’s tone and mood.

Characters
Main Character

In a definition given by appstate.edu the main character is

“the central character of the story, the one that the reader
follows through the story or account. The main character is
usually involved in the problems of the tale, the climax, and
its resolution.”

Consider who it is that makes the story progress or who

develops the narrative most. Who would be given the most
screen time or attention if this scene was made into a movie.

Supporting Characters

A supporting character is a person who plays a role in the life of a story's protagonist. Novelists and
screenwriters don't anchor a story around supporting characters, but they use them in the process
of worldbuilding to create a compelling backdrop to the main character's story arc. As per

Think about who it is that helps the main character in the scene develop.
