Probe PLT (System Overview)
Probe PLT (System Overview)
Probe PLT (System Overview)
Probe offers a range of production assessment tools that are tried, tested and proven. Simple tracer ejector tools run with dual
gamma ray tools for flow velocity indications, temperature and pressure tools for well integrity assessment and noise tools to
listen to dynamic events occurring subsurface. These are 1 3/8 inch diameter tools and ideal for use in tubing surveys.
Probe also has designed and packaged its own Production Logging Tool (PLT) in 1 11/16 inch diameter which offers standard
measurements in an easy-to-use configuration with field interchangeable flowmeter and pressure sensor units. The PLT can be
combined with other Probe tools such as, the Radio-active Fludid Density and Mass Balance Density Tool.
The multi-faceted PLT string has been designed for optimal efficiency, sensing points for different measurements are as close
as possible and for ease of configuration in the field. In addition, the PLT has the adaptability to use the best sensor sections to
meet your client’s requirements with the incorporation of strategically placed tool joints. This facilitates ease of maintenance
and any additional customization that may be required.

Radioactive Fluid Density Tool
Optional Sensors powered by ingenuity
The Probe Radioactive Fluid Density (RFD) tool emits low energy gamma rays to determine the density of produced
fluids during a production log. The RFD provides safe and reliable measurement that is unaffected by well deviation
and flow rates.
Low energy gamma rays are emitted from an 3 MC-Barrium 133 source from one end of a measuring cell and are
detected at the opposite end by a scintillation detector. Well fluid flows through the cell and attenuates the received
count rate in an inverse logarithmic function of the average fluid density. The detector is internally stabilized for the
wellbore temperature and matched to the gamma energy of the source. The tool can be calibrated in air and fresh
water to derive calibration values applicable to oil and saltwater densities.
Note: The tool is designed to enable permanent installation while maintaining radiation levels within regulatory limits (Radioac-
tive II classification) during transport. Source can be removed for transport (not standard - optional).

✔ SRO or Memory Operation
✔ Runs in all well deviation environments
✔ Low energy gamma ray

In-Line Spinner
Optional Sensors powered by ingenuity
The Probe In-line Spinner (ILS) is a compact flowmeter which can be run in combination with other production logging
tools. The ILS may be used in conditions where fullbore spinners may be less effective due to restrictions downhole.
The ILS allows for production profiling in tubing and casing within one logging run and is less susceptible to the ef-
fects of jetting (high-velocity fluid entry from perforations) than a fullbore spinner. The ILS is equipped with a shroud
to protect the spinner blade as the tool moves through well restrictions. A combination of ILS & CFB provides a con-
tinuous optimised flow profile. A removable cover allows functionality for field-replacable impelled blade.
Precision roller bearings allow the spinner to rotate with minimal friction. As fluid moves past the spinner rotation
is detected by zero drag Hall-effect sensors. The spinner blade has been optimized to have a very low mechanical
threshold – ideal for low flow rates. The signal from the Hall-effect sensors is converted into a flow rate measurement
with (up or down flow) direction indication.

Mass Balance Density Tool
Optional Sensors powered by ingenuity
The Mass Balance Density Tool (MBT) is an optional sensor for use with the Probe generation two series of Produc-
tion Logging Tool (PLT) modules. It is a non-radioactive, fluid density sensor that can be used as a single or add-in
module for configuring a PLT string with memory or PLT telemetry functions.
Simple calibration is based on air and water readings. The tool has no pressure sensors which can be damaged by
turbulent flow and tool response is largely unaffected by this type of well condition. An internal high-pressure feed-
through isolator prevents flooding of the tool string in the event of a failed o-ring seal.
The MBT provides high accuracty and resolution from a 17 inch long active area which responds to a fullbore as
opposed to a single point measurement.
✔ Advaned technology using a new, patent-pending application of mass balance buoyancy princile
✔ Two reference masses and two float masses provide rejection of vibration and shock effects

UniTool™ C
Optional Sensors powered by ingenuity
The UniTool™ C is a unique tool that enables an operator to run many traditional e-line logging services on slickline,
coil tubing or on tractor conveyed operations. This highly adaptable tool can be used to control & store data from all
Probe’s digtal cased hole tools and can be used in applications that do not have an absolute requirement for real-
time data acquisition.
The 8Gb memory capacity allows for data sampling at transmission rates normally associated with surface read-out
logging tools. The memory controller reacts to the data transmission rates of the connected toolstring rather than via
a pre-programmed sample rate. As a result, the UniTool™ C can help expand the range of conveyance options avail-
able to service providers who may have been limited to their core activity, and increase their ability to cover additional
operations with existing tool stock.
The UniTool™ technology consists of a compact control module and a battery module and is adaptable to Probe’s
PLT, Radii™ Bond Tool, Corrosion Logging Tools and other proprietary systems.

Accessories
powered by ingenuity
Swivel
The tool string will run in and out of the well more smoothly when a swivel joint is placed at the top of the
tool assembly. The swivel joint minimizes rotational torque when run on the end of a new wireline. Prevents
the tool string from being forced to turn when placed inside the well. Connection types are available in C5
and GO connection at the top and bottom.
Knuckle Joint
Probe’s single pin Knuckle Joint is designed to facilitate operation through deviated wells. The universal
ball-type joint allows flexible movement for coupled components in any position of the production toolstring.
Applied selectively, the Knuckle Joint minimizes the straight length of a toolstring to negotiate deformed
tubing or deviated well conditions. The top is fitted with a double adapter to provide a GO and C5 style box
connection on the top and a GO and C5 style pin at the bottom.
