Types of Assessment in Teaching Science

Formative Assessment - is a planned, ongoing process


used by all students and teachers during learning and
teaching to elicit and use evidence of student learning to
improve student understanding of intended disciplinary
learning outcomes and support students to become self-
directed.
Ipsative Assessment - evaluate an individual's
performance or traits in relation to their own previous
performance.
Interim Assessment- are common assessments that are
administered to students throughout the school year to
monitor growth and achievement according to specific
learning goals and academic standards.
Assessment as learning – part of formative assessment
involves students monitoring and gathering information
about their own learning.
Summative Assessment - is to evaluate student learning
at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against
some standard or benchmark.
Skills Assessment- is the evaluation of an employee's
proficiency, knowledge, and abilities related to the skills
required for a specific job or field.
Alternative assessment is a scientifically recognized,
efficient, and effective way to observe, document, and
analyze student progress over time.
Assessment data - is a tool that provides a lens for you
to look at your school and classroom's performance.
