INTRODUCTION:
The alignment of from of crosses a CT Road @ Km.. Hence a Box Culvert is proposed across the canal. The LS and CS
of road are taken on U/s and D/s of the proposed structure. The net level plan is also prepared.
ROAD LEVEL
As the G.L. is higher above TBL hence R.L. is kept at Ground level +100
VENTWAY
The ventway for canal flow is worked out adopting twice the normal velocity of canal in the
barrel. The area works out to 1.5m² for which 1 vent of 1.5 x 1.3 m box is proposed. Actual area
or flow is 5.135m².
TRANSITIONS
The Width @ entry is 1m & width @ exit of structure works out to 1.5 m. The Canal bed width is 2
m. The difference is proposed to be negotiated by providing Transitions in a length of 2.6 m on D/s
and 2.6m on U/S .

Job :
BARREL
The Barrel is of R.C.C box type and designed for earth over it and earth pressure on sides. The
analysis is done using Moment distribution Method for the load combination i.e., barrel empty
with earth pressure below the Road as it is critical case. The stresses and coefficients adopted
are,
Mix Proposed M 30
Stress In Concrete 8.5 N/mm2
Stress In Steel 130 N/mm2
Modular Ratio 10.980
Lever Arm Coefficient 0.861
Neutral Axis Coefficient 0.418
M.R Coefficient 1.529
The Barrel is proposed in VRCC M25 using 20 mm Max size aggregate . Thickness of the top and
bottom slabs under the Barrel under the earth filling works out to 0.3 & 0.35 m. The thickness of
the External wall is 0.3 m.It is checked for shear and bond.

5 ROAD LEVEL
As the Existing Ground level is much higher than the Proposed Canal bed level
Hence the Road level is proposed at the Existing Ground level.
Total Road width = 5.40 m
6 TRANSITIONS
Normal bed width of canal D/S = 1.000 m
Normal bed width of canal U/S = 1.000 m
