INTRODUCTION
The K-12 Basic Education Program aims to imbue students with the essential
competencies, work ethic, and values required to pursue additional basic education and
contribute to the nation's development objectives. The curriculum now mandates the
inclusion of Work Immersion as a compulsory subject. The learners are exposed to
authentic work settings where their previous education and training can be put into
practice. The program of Work Immersion is designed to facilitate the acquisition of
essential life and career competencies among learners, thereby enabling them to make
informed choices regarding their future academic or professional pursuits. This enables
students to assess their comprehension and implement their acquired knowledge
beyond the confines of the educational setting. The program of Work Immersion
provides an opportunity for learners to not only put into practice their prior training but
also to gain exposure to the social dynamics inherent in a professional setting. The work
immersion program is expected to facilitate the acquisition of various skills and values
that are deemed essential for the successful transition of high school students to the
actual workforce.
The completion of Work Immersion is a mandatory component of the graduation
curriculum. It is a requirement for Senior High School students to participate in Work
Immersion programs within an industry that is closely aligned with their intended
postsecondary pursuits. The Work Immersion program provides students with an
opportunity to gain exposure and familiarity with work-related environments that are
relevant to their area of specialization, thereby augmenting their competencies. The
students have the opportunity to acquire pertinent and pragmatic industrial proficiencies
through the tutelage of industry specialists and laborers. They can acknowledge the
significance and implementation of the principles and theories imparted in their
academic curriculum. Additionally, they can augment their technical acumen and
expertise, enrich their interpersonal and communicative abilities, and cultivate positive
work habits, attitudes, appreciation, and reverence for work. These equip individuals
with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively address the demands and
obstacles of the workforce or advanced academic pursuits upon completion of their
studies.
According to the guidelines, the implementation of work immersion programs can
facilitate the acquisition of essential life and career competencies among students,
thereby equipping them with the necessary skills to make informed choices regarding
their postsecondary education or employment opportunities. According to the statement,
the Department of Education (DepEd) aims to offer learners work immersion
opportunities, hands-on experience in the workplace, and supplementary learning
resources through the establishment of partnerships with various institutions. As per the
agency's statement, educational institutions have the option to collaborate with
established entities or associations to formulate arrangements pertaining to student
work immersion. According to DepEd, obtaining parental consent is necessary for work
immersion since the students are still considered minors.
The term "immersion" in relation to the K-12 curriculum has been defined by the
Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 40, series of 2015.The Senior High School
(SHS) Curriculum includes a component known as Work Immersion, which involves 80
hours of practical experience or simulated work. This program is designed to provide
Grades 11 and 12 students with exposure to real-world workplace settings and to
enhance the competencies taught by the school. The School Head and designated
personnel of the Partner oversee this program. The act of immersion takes place
beyond the confines of the educational institution, in a designated "Workplace
Immersion Venue," which is defined as the location where students engage in work
immersion activities
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORK IMMERSION
The K to 12 Basic Education Program aims to cultivate in students the
necessary skills, professional attitude, and ethical principles that are applicable in
both academic pursuits and employment opportunities. Incorporation of Work
Immersion, a mandatory subject, into the curriculum has been implemented to
enhance the alignment between fundamental education and the developmental
objectives of the country.
1. This course will afford students the chance to gain familiarity with the
professional environment.
2. With regards to emulating professional work settings; and 3. To effectively
utilize their skill sets in specialized and practical subjects within genuine
occupational contexts.
In order to attain the aforementioned goals, it is imperative that Work
Immersion be fulfilled as a prerequisite for completing secondary education. The
learners are exposed to authentic work settings, including workshops, offices,
and laboratories, where their previous training is applicable. The implementation
of work immersion programs is believed to facilitate the acquisition of essential
life and career competencies among learners, thereby equipping them with the
necessary skills to make informed choices regarding their postsecondary
education or employment opportunities. The Department of Education (DepEd)
aims to facilitate work immersion opportunities, hands-on experience, and
supplementary learning resources for learners through the establishment of
partnerships with various institutions. The objective of this program is to facilitate
the learners in achieving the following outcomes: firstly, to recognize the
significance and practical implementation of the principles and theories acquired
during their academic tenure; secondly, to augment their technical proficiency
and expertise; thirdly, to enhance their communication and interpersonal skills;
and fourthly, to cultivate positive work ethics, attitudes, and values, and foster a
sense of admiration and reverence for work.
Upon reaching Senior High School, students are expected to have
acquired a comprehensive set of competencies and skills that will equip them for
various curriculum exits, including higher education, employment, middle-skills
development, and entrepreneurship. Work immersion offers individuals an
opportunity to evaluate and implement their acquired knowledge in a real-world
setting outside of the academic environment. During work immersion, students
are provided with the opportunity to not only apply their prior training but also
gain exposure to the social dynamics present within a professional setting. The
work immersion program provides an opportunity for students to acquire various
skills and values that can facilitate their transition from high school to the
professional world. In order to ensure the attainment of the aforementioned goals
of Work Immersion, this policy has been formulated to provide guidance to
educational institutions in the following areas: (1) devising adaptable work
immersion arrangements for their students, (2) offering work immersion options
that are pertinent to the students' objectives and requirements, (3) coordinating
work immersion opportunities for students that align with the varied human
resource demands of partner institutions for work immersion, and (4) defining the
extent and constraints of work immersion within the framework of basic education
when establishing affiliations with work immersion partners.

VALUES AND ATTRIBUTES OF A STUDENT IN A WORK IMMERSION

As a student currently undergoing a work immersion program, the

following values and attributes are deemed essential in order to facilitate a
meaningful and productive experience.
1. The concept of responsibility refers to the state or quality of being accountable
for one's actions, decisions, and obligations. It is a fundamental aspect of ethical
and moral behavior, and it involves acknowledging the consequences of one's
choices and taking steps to address them appropriately. In various contexts,
responsibility can be applied to individuals, organizations, and societies, and it
plays a crucial role in promoting trust, reliability, and integrity. In a professional
setting, there exist daily objectives that must be achieved. Consequently, active
involvement throughout the entire process is of utmost importance. It is
imperative to ensure that one's work is delivered with a high standard of quality,
unwavering commitment, and within the designated timeframe.
2. The trait of being adaptable refers to the ability to adjust to new or changing
situations. Within a professional setting, there exist various components and
procedures that are in motion. One should be ready to embrace alterations. As
an illustration, consider a scenario in which an individual is assigned the
responsibility of procuring sponsorship for a marketing event owing to insufficient
financial resources. Acquiring proficiency in networking and negotiation skills can
prove to be advantageous while seeking sponsorship.
3. In the context of the workplace, the term "professional" refers to an individual
who exhibits a high level of competence, skill, and ethical behavior in their
chosen field. This may include adherence to industry standards, effective
communication, and a commitment to ongoing learning and development. A
professional is typically viewed as reliable, trustworthy, and capable of delivering
quality work within established timelines. Exhibiting professionalism would be
highly commendable even as a work immersion participant who is still a student.
It is imperative to attend scheduled meetings and adhere to established
deadlines for task completion. It is recommended to dress in a manner that is
suitable for the occasion or setting. It is advisable to be mindful of one's
language. Adhere to all established policies of the organization.
4. Exemplary Ethical Standards in Work Performance Work ethics refers to the
collection of principles and values that an individual adheres to in their
professional life. Exhibit your dedication towards your work to your peers and
superiors throughout the immersion period. It is advisable to refrain from
expressing dissatisfaction regarding tasks that have been delegated to you. It is
important to prioritize honesty and accuracy in communication. Avoid
rationalizing or justifying one's actions or behavior. Kindly refrain from submitting
work that lacks precision and attention to detail. It is important to remain focused
on the task at hand.
