Classical Standard - Regulations
1. Prospectus
● The Sharjah Cultural & Chess Club
(SCCC) and the Sharjah International Chess
Academy (SICA) are pleased to announce the
3rd Ali Abu Khalil Memorial 2023 -
Classical Standard, which will be held over-
the-board, December 21st to 28th, 2023.
2. Participation-Registration
● The participation is open for everybody with
Under 1600 FIDE Standard Rating.
○ Exceptions are allowed for SCCC & SICA
Participants, after approval.
● All Participants must be over five (5) years-
old.
● All Participants must have issued a FIDE-ID.
● Registrations will be accepted only via the
following link: https://sharjahchess.ae/register.
● Each participant must state the following:
○ Participant’s Name.
○ Participant’s FIDE-ID.
○ Participant’s WhatsApp.
○ Participant’s Year of Birth.
● The deadline for Registration will be (maxi-
mum) on December 20th (20:00).
3. Entry Fees
○ GM-IM-WGM-WIM Titles: AED 0.
○ SCCC & SICA & Al Thiqah: AED 0.
○ Sharjah Clubs (UAE Citizens): AED 0.
○ Sharjah Clubs (Non-UAE Citizens): AED 100.
○ Other Players: AED 100.
● All Entry Fees must be pre-paid before the
Registration deadline.
● All Participants are obliged to re-confirm
their participation on 21.12.2023, from 17:00
to 17:45, in the Confirmation Desk. Otherwise,
they will be excluded from the 1st Round.

● Limitation of Participation will be on 250
Participants.
● Registered Participants who will withdraw
without valid reason(s) at any stage (even
before the 1st Round), will not be allowed to
participate in future events of SCCC & SICA.
● All Participants must comply with the Safety
& Sports Regulations of UAE (Green Pass
might be required).
4. Data
● Swiss System Tournament of nine (9)
rounds. FIDE-Rated (FIDE Standard Rating
List).
● The playing venue will be the in the premi-
ses of the SCCC & SICA.
● The tournament will be held by a total of
ninety (90) minutes for the end of the game
and ten (30) seconds increment per move, per
opponent and per game. Notation is obligatory.
● The drawing of lots will be made after the
end of each round.
5. Arbitration & Appeals Committee
● Coordinator: Rayes Abdul Kader.
● Chief Arbiter: Abdulla Murad Almamzi.
● Deputy Chief Arbiter: Mada Yazji.
● Arbiters: Will be announced.
● The above Technical Staff will handle Arbi-
tration, Registration, Pairings, Anti-cheating,
and Appeals, as per FIDE Regulations.
6. Scoring System & Tie-Breaks
● Point system will be in force as the first
scoring criteria:
○ 1 for a win.
○ ½ for a draw.
○ 0 for a loss.
● The tie-break criteria will be (by order):

○ Direct Encounter. 7th Place 300
○ Buchholz-cut1. 8th Place 200
○ Buchholz-cut2.
9. Playing Schedule
○ Highest Number of Wins with black (played).
● The tournament will be played according to
○ Rating Performance.

● Winners are obliged to attend the Closing
