Problem
Consider a Steel bar AB of cross sectional area 50 mm2
supported at both ends by fixed supports, with an axial
force of 12 kN applied at C as illustrated. Find the
reactions at the walls. Also find the stresses in both the
sections.
Problem
 The column is constructed from high-
strength concrete and four A-36 steel 800 kN

reinforcing rods. If it is subjected to

an axial force of 800 kN, determine 300 mm
the required diameter of each rod so 300 mm
that one-fourth of the load is carried
by the steel and three-fourths by the
concrete.
Est = 200 GPa, Ec = 25 GPa.
