Teacher's notes
Exercise 1. Lead-in 6 mins
Students look at the four pictures of the seasons and name each season. Discuss what the weather is
typically like in each season and what students like or dislike about each season. With weaker groups, you
can give them time to think and write down their answers.

Answers:
1. spring, summer, autumn, winter
2 and 3. Students' answers
Exercise 2. Listening - clothing vocabulary 6 mins
Say that you are going to listen to a girl, Erica, who describes her perfect seasonal outfit. Students
listen to the recording of Erica and draw her outfit. Afterwards, elicit the names of the clothing items
and write them down next to the drawing.

Answers: a warm coat, a huge scarf, a hat, socks, brown boots. It is a winter outfit.
Exercise 3. Group discussion 8 mins
As a group, write down Erica's winter clothing items in the winter column. Elicit a few more winter
clothing items students wear in winter.

Suggested answers:
winter - coat, scarf, hat, socks, boots (also: gloves, mittens, jacket, tights, trousers, sweater, jumper, etc.)

Divide students into small groups. Say that each group needs to write as many seasonal clothing in
other columns. The group with the most vocabulary items wins.

Suggested answers:
spring - jacket, coat, trousers, blouse, shirt, T-shirt, dress, trainers, etc.
summer - flip-flops, bikini, swimsuit, shorts, T-shirt, top, hat, sunglasses, skirt, dress, etc.
autumn - raincoat, trousers, jacket, boots, tights, jumper, etc.
Exercise 4. Listening and spelling 4 mins
Listen to Erica describing her perfect winter outfit again. Write down the missing words. Check the
answers and correct any spelling mistakes.

Answers:
winter, coat, scarf, scarves, scarf, hat, socks, boots
Exercise 5. Writing practice 8 mins
Ask students to use Erica's description to write about their favourite seasonal outfits. Go around the
class and check for any spelling and grammar errors. Finish this activity by sharing the answers with
the rest of the group.
Exercise 6. Speaking practice 10 mins
Students work in pairs. Students ask and answer questions about their favourite seasons and outfits
they usually wear. Ask to write down the answers as at the end of the activity, each student will report
about their partner and their answers.
Error correction 3 mins
Provide speaking feedback.
