What issues besides health insurance is brought up? Why do you think most doctors
will not accept Medicaid? How does the lack of insurance impact real people?

Evidence-Based Discussion 25-10

Guiding Seminar: Is health care a commodity. Is it a right or Privilege
Students will engage in a mini-seminar class?
Is health care a commodity—a product like clothing and food?
Should everyone have the equal access to health care, and if so who is paying for it?
Who remembers the Zika virus or Ebola? Should that be treated a commodity?
Who thinks about STDs caused by being a player? Should doctors and hospitals cash
in on a person’s bad choices? What about the soda ban that we read about? We saw
that because health care often treats the symptoms, but not the cause—businesses have
no incentive to encourage healthy behavior.
People, companies and other businesses profit off of health care, what if we changed
health care into government-run healthcare—so no insurance companies—what impact
might that have on the economy?
If you believe that health care is a right and not a commodity, then who loses out and
what incentive would they have to make it a right?
