TALK NO. 4

REPENTANCE AND FAITH

I. INTRODUCTION

God extends an invitation and we need to respond freely. Our response requires a double action: REPENT
(Reform our lives) and BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL (Have faith in him and the message he brings). (Mark 1:15)

II. DOUBLE ACTION RESPONSE

Repentance and faith go together. Each is inadequate without the other.

A. REPENTANCE

1. Metanoia, literally mean a change of mind.

2. Turning away from evil and wrongdoing.
3. Sorrow for sinning against God and not the consequence of sin.
4. Does not depend on feelings.
5. Specific sins must renounce: non-Christian religions; spiritualism; the occult; witchcraft; adultery;
fornication; homosexual practices; murder; robbery; alcoholism; drug addiction; cheating; lying; slander,
etc.

B. FAITH

Believing that Jesus came to be our personal Savior.

III. OUR RESPONSE

To turn away from sin and all obstacles to God, and accept Jesus as Lord. Take God up on his promises for a
new life. Commit your life to Christ.

IV. SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE WEEK

Mark 8:27-30 1 Cor. 6:8-11 Rom. 1:26-32

Gal. 5:13-21 1 Cor. 6:15-20 Rom. 3:21-31

V. SUGGESTED DISCUSSION STARTERS

1. Is there need for you to repent? Why?

2. What do you hope to see change in your life as you dedicate it to God?

Note: if it is difficult to speak in specifics, just speak in generalities.

3. Do you read the bible? Do you believe what is written?

Note: There is no need to be specific. Avoid getting into details or arguments.
