IMMUNOASSAY

DIFFERENT KINDS OF IMMUNOASSAYS

ENZYME-LINKED
IMMUNOSORBENT ASSAY
(ELISA)
In ELISA, an enzyme is bound to
either the antibody or the antigen.
The target chemical may be
quantified because of the
quantifiable color change that the
reaction causes.

RADIOIMMUNOASSAY
(RIA)
Radioactive isotopes are used in RIA
to identify antigens and antibodies.
The level of radioactivity is
proportional to the concentration of
the material being tested.

FLUORESCENT
IMMUNOASSAY (FIA)
This approach detects the presence
of antigens or antibodies by using
fluorescent markers. The
concentration of the target chemical
can be determined by measuring its
fluorescence.

CHEMILUMINESCENT
IMMUNOASSAY (CLIA)
CLIA is dependent on light being
released via a chemical interaction
between certain substrates and
antibodies or antigens identified with
enzymes. The target substance's
quantity is determined by measuring
the light emission.

IMMUNOCHROMATOGRA
PHY (LATERAL FLOW
ASSAYS)
Rapid tests determine if a drug is
present or absent by monitoring the
flow of a liquid through a membrane.
Tests for infectious diseases and
pregnancy are two instances of
lateral flow assays.
