FIGURES OF SPEECH are used to make writing more appealing to the reader.
The four common figures of speech are:
1. Simile is comparing two things using as or like eg. The sun blazed like an angry fire.
2. Metaphor is comparing two things without using as or like eg. The road was ribbon of
moonlight.
3. Personification is to make something which is not alive, sound like it is.eg. The flowers danced in
the breeze.
4. Alliteration is repetition of the same consonant sounds.eg. slowly the sly snake slithered over the
slimy grass.
